I have a lot of problems using Autohotkey
Still trying to get my head round it!

I need a macro recorder - I didn't know one existed
I spent sometime going through the AHK help file

There IS a macro recorder!
It's called: Autoscriptwriter

BUT: where do I download it from??
I;ve searched and searched and searched - it doesn't exist!
Why is this?

There is another one as mentioned here: <!-- m -->http://www.autohotke...topic23671.html<!-- m -->

I wanted to get the official version!
Is there something wrong with it?

I've just tried the other version - it works a treat
I should be able to write the script I wanted to now that I've recorded some actions

But still confused why the official version is nowhere to be seen!

Thanks

OM

For AHK Basic there is also the AutoHotkey ScriptWriter that comes with the AHK Basic installer, if you have at one time installed AHK Basic look in the AutoHotkey folder and you will find it  (you could also download the ZIP <!-- m -->http://www.autohotke.../AutoHotkey.zip<!-- m --> and just unpack the AutoScriptWriter folder if you have installed ahk_l already)

To answer this, reread this reply:

Meaning if you go the the location you installed AHK to (Default is C:\Program Files\AutoHotkey), the autoscript writer will be there.

codybear, ASW is not included with AHK_L.
and i'm glad. I think all traces of ASW should be removed from the docs and then not be included.

if a noob absolutely needs one, they can search for it (just like every tool/script/program). polyethenes is much better then the OLD one anyways.

i'd disagree completely :)
i don't think it was intuitive to know that there would be a macro recording program
autohotkey is absolutely amazing - i love it now!
i wanted it to do something
i found it really daunting to use
i'd already spent time trying to get it to do what i wanted
i posted a few questions on this forum, but didn't get the answer i needed
i tried posting again on the questions - but had no luck
i didn't want to spam the forum with repeat requests!
i did try reading through the manuals but had no luck (this was mainly because i was scan reading 200 words per minute - and missing the answers that were probably there!)
so... i kinda gave up

today i had a message from god telling me to try the program again
(ok, so i lied about the message from god)
i read through the help file and came across the bit about the script writer
i ran it - this was great... but it didn't quite do the trick
i then found the existing recorder (thanks to the replies above), that didn't quite give the answer - but collectively using both, i worked out my solution

i would imagine other newbies like me would also have similar experiences - having the recorder was invaluable - and the reason why i'm really excited about AHK - i can think of loads of ways of using it now!

I agree it should not be hidden this way.

I wonder how much time will AutoHotkey.zip be left so that we can still recover Auto Script Writer.

I wonder why it is said that Auto Script Writer should disappear ? Maybe it should be updated but certainly not disappear !
