Program I built with Autohotkey to bring NOAA Weather to your Desktop. I just ask that you do not reverse engineer my work. Let me know what I can do to make it better :)

It looks nice from the screenshot. I can't test it at work because of the virus detection. Which part of your script do you think is triggering this? I have built my own weather app using NOAA and StrX by SKAN and the virus protection is never a problem.

The only thing I can think of is the script automatically updates itself if there is a new release which downloaded the .exe. I should make it download from a .zip and automatically extract it, but I just want it to be simple and require no special work from the user.

It's being flagged as WS.Reputation.1

WS.Reputation.1 is a detection for files that have a low reputation score based on analyzing data from Symantec’s community of users and therefore are likely to be security risks. Detections of this type are based on Symantec’s reputation-based security technology. Because this detection is based on a reputation score, it does not represent a specific class of threat like adware or spyware, but instead applies to all threat categories.

The reputation-based system uses "the wisdom of crowds" (Symantec’s tens of millions of end users) connected to cloud-based intelligence to compute a reputation score for an application, and in the process identify malicious software in an entirely new way beyond traditional signatures and behavior-based detection techniques.

I got the file to work finally... Just removed it from the Antivirus' quarantine.

Question: Did you use a wrapper? A program which launches the script once executed? I imagine that people do this to help deter people from stealing their scripts. If so, that could also be the source of the problem.

Interesting App - Since my father works for the National Weather Service (NOAA) I have a copy of their in office desktop app.

All this script is doing is pulling information from <!-- m -->http://forecast.weather.gov<!-- m -->

And its seems you jacked the icon from <!-- m -->http://fluffyapp.com/<!-- m -->

1. The information on how the program works is shown within the "Home Page" tab.

2. Are you blind? The icon used with my program and Fluffyapp aren't even remotely close....

1. Who cares where the information on how the program works is displayed. All you did was pull information from a website, nothing special.

and you are asking for Donations for software that Uses information provided/collected by government .. which in turn violates the NOAA/NWS ToS

2. They are both CLOUDS.. how is that not "remotely close" .. you just cut a rectangle out the center of the cloud. Both Icons open in photoshop, the line up for a 99% match. You are the blind one.

Nothing in your "program" is original.

1. You should do some research before you speak so you don't sound like a complete moron.

2. Again, you are blind :)

Here are the 2 icons compared. They are entirely different:

Would you like to continue arguing with me some more? Also, please do tell how my program is not original. I think someone is butthurt, which I don't understand because I think it's a pretty cool program ;)

I ran across this post looking for a weather desktop app. I have to agree with slackr... It's "pretty" but it's just displaying information that could be gleaned elsewhere (not that I'm expecting you to be a meteorologist and produce your own forecasts). It ISN'T, however, original in any way shape or form. Who cares, by the way, about the icon. Icons get ripped all the time. No offense, but I'm going to keep looking.

In what ways could I improve this program and make it better? This is the main reason I created this topic.

Great program and great work!!! Reviewing some of the posts in this topic... some of you are just being rude.

I've always used NOAA, but it's easier to not have to open my browser. All I need to do is just double click the icon and Voila! Hunting trip forecasts made easy!
