Yesterday I managed to delete about 1.5 TB of data on my PC, all movies I'd recorded over the last few years from my cable box. I immediately stopped all processes that might write to the drive and went about trying to find an undelete utility. As most were 1080i HD recordings the files are over 4GB in size and I've painfully discovered that this is a problem. Every undelete utility I've tried fails with these files. Most won't even show the missing filenames, and the one that does lists the filesize as 0 bytes. The under 4GB files appear to be perfectly recoverable, but nothing over is.

Does anyone know of a utility that will work with large files on an NTFS drive?

I've used Piriform's Recuva to undelete files in the past, but i've had a bad experience trying to undelete files from a 600GB external hard drive once. The files were not even big themselves, but the scanning of the hard drive would never finish.

Perhaps, these applications all have issues with RAM usage. I'm not sure.

Might be worth a try though (if you haven't tryed it yet).

Thanks. Recuva is one of the ones I've tried. Works for files less than 4GB but doesn't show the filenames of those that were larger.

Last time I had recovery needs (accidentally formatted a hard drive) I was recommended the SpotMau Data Recovery Kit. I purchased it and it worked great! Recovered the files and the folder structure.

How much RAM do you have, and are you running 32bit or 64bit Windows?
