I've noticed recently that it is much more difficult to search for appropriate help topics as search terms are ignored more often (even when preceded with '+'). For example, I can no longer search for any help on GUI-related topics as the search term 'gui' is always ignored.

Is it possible to configure the search feature so that terms will be ignored only if they are used as stand-alone terms?

Please remove this limitation, it doesn't help searching at all.

Why don't you use google for searching the forum? Much more useful than the builtin search.

What's the point of having a search link if it ignores half of the terms being searched for? This is especially a problem for new users who are unaware how USELESS the forums search is.

In it's present state it would be better if there was no search link at all.

Why not just have the link redirect to a custom Google search like thousands of other websites have done?

I don't use Google and think the forum search should be improved. How about putting it back to the way that it was?

Be careful what you ask for. You might actually get it.

Adding a Google search will provide value but using Google to replace searching a multi-tier, multi-topic forum doesn't make any sense. Too many search features are lost. Please put it back the way it was and if/when you have time, improve the search so that it doesn't suck as bad. IMHO, the search feature could use improvement but I usually find what I'm looking for.

Them be my thoughts.

jballi: I agree.

I recently had a need to search by author, and found that the old search form thankfully still exists.

The new Google search may return more links for the searched term, but it returns at the same time the results from
-documentation; I already have the help file locally on my computer so I do not need these to clutter the search results of the forum
-all of the forum threads (support, scripts, tutorials, suggestions, announcements,utilities...); I want to be able to look through only scripts or only support to narrow down the results.
One could say that this solution deserves a new topic : (forum) Difficult to search due to not ignoring any of the results
Thank you Lexixos for the link to the old search form, I will continue using that one.

p.s. maybe that can be selected in the account settings - theme with the google search or theme with standard forum search

@bekihito: just to tell you that you don't have to view the results for documentation.
At the top, there are some filters. Something like "All Results, Documentation, Forums, User Sites".

However, your complaint about not being able to "narrow down the results according to forum/subforum" is relevant.

am I missing something?
where can I choose anything?
It informs me that it will search through: autohotkey.net, autohotkey.com, autohotkey.com/docs, autohotkey.com/forum, autohotkey.net/~
That's all there is....

you're not missing anything

poly, i dont understand the need to change things and add all these fancy hacks. just use the damn built in search like every other normal forum on the web. and just don't filter out 'common' words. what is wrong with that?

+1. And search for topics by default. Btw: The search is still available as search.php on the server.
