Description: Have you ever wondered if it's possible to wake up your system from a Stand-by mode or Hibernation programmatically? The answer is yes, it's possible. This simple utility will show you how. Once activated it resides in the system and wakes it up at a predefined time, runs a file and if necessary sends system into Stand-by mode, hibernates it or shuts it down. It can also be used to send system into "specific" Stand-by mode or hibernation. We can supply it with a source code which will let you modify this concept for your own needs.
Special features:

* Can restore almost every Windows operating system from a Stand-by mode (and some from hibernation) that has Advanced Power Management (APM) enabled (Check Control Panel -> Power Options), and a hardware timer support;
* Can run a file at a predetime after a wake-up, or simply during normal operation;
* Can send system back to Stand-by mode (hibernate it or shut down) after a certain time interval (provided your hardware supports it);
* Can detect if Stand-by mode (or hibernation) is supported by your system;
* Can turn the monitor on and hold off screen saver during the waiting time;
* Can repair local area network and high-speed Internet connection upon waking up from a suspended state;
* Can send system into Stand-by mode or hibernate it with more options than available through Operating System;
* Can be incorporated into in-car (entertainment) PC system to speed up booting time & save battery [more here];
* Can be run from the Windows Command Line without user interaction;
* Has free source code file download that enables you to modify this concept according to your needs;
* New C++/MFC programmers can learn how to create Windows XP compatible dialog-based MFC applications, how to operate dialog window controls, how to run events on timer and Windows threads and synchronization model, how to subclass dialog controls for your specific needs (and to create HTML link in your dialog box in particular), how to enable your application to start from the Windows Command Line and how to run it from the system tray (area next to the Windows system clock in the lower right corner), and much more.

To learn more see WakeupOnStandBy Manual

Platforms: Tested on Windows ME/2000/XP (might work with Windows 98/NT too) Not compatible with Windows Vista (explanation on the website)

Compatability: Requires APM enabled, and hardware support for Stand-by mode.

Source Code: Available [C++, MS VC .NET 2002 v. 7.0, MFC App]
(Source Code is the set of text files written in specific programming language that present readable algorithm of the program's functionality. Having the source code you can better understand the way program works or make any changes to it (provided you have a compiler). Source Code license has more limitations than the EXE file license. I agree this is ... unusual :)

As the source is provided, maybe taking a look at the code would reveal it's not very hard to make it Vista compatible.

Actually I'm still on XP and I don't use WOSB very often for now.
But when I'll switch to Vista, if I need it and still nobody has tempted an adaptation, I'll might consider to give a try.
Or even better, maybe this could be done with AHK, since it relies "only" on API calls (I think).
