I've recently noticed that Chris' last post was on November 22, 2007. He's usually very active and this seems sudden. Also I've noticed he's been posting less and less, am I the only one who has noticed this? What do you think is up?

Just because he doesn't post doesn't mean he isn't online. He is hidden after all.

That is certanly not the case.

The biggest probability is that AHK development has stoped and that it will not be updated any more.

It would be good for Chris to show up and at least tell us if that is true or not.

If AHK is dead, it is still valuable tool, but I will certanly look for up-to-date alternatives.

I just hope that whatever "personal matters" Chris referred to in one of his last posts aren't anything terribly negative, and that life is treating him well.

If life were fair, he'd win a big lottery or something for all the hours that he's worked for the benefit of the users of AHK.

I certainly hope that Chris hasn't tired of the project, but working on any one project gets really old after a while.

If Chris has ceased development of AHK, it'll still be a very useful language until Microsoft changes API to the extent that the code no longer works.
There is also a possibility that some of the programmers here can continue with development.

I'm actually a little surprised that I haven't seen much in the way of modified AHK executables, except for the CE(?) version.

Maybe it's about time for some advanced users familiar with C languages to turn the focus from wrappers to the internals of the AutoHotkey executable itself.

Some of you may recall about a year ago Chris asked for help (i.e. volunteers). http://www.autohotkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14238&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=45
The post morphed into other discussions without much further discussion re: ways to help Chris. Read the post to get an idea of the kind of help he's looking for.

Without any serious interest in supporting Chris with the future development and maintenance of AHK, it wouldn't surprise me if he's experiencing "burn out". It's my understanding he's been leading the charge for five years now. That a long time for anyone involved in an open source project.

Regardless, I'll send him an email just to make sure all is OK.

How did you even come up with that
I'm sure he's got other stuff to do, like work, life, etc. Since AHK is open source and doesn't bring any income, i doubt that it's a priority on his list.

If AHK development by Chris has stopped, at least the source is open source. To understand how bad it can be if a developer just up and leaves, read the history behind Crimson Editor and the subsequent Emerald Editor project that took years to come about since they had to track the developer down and get access to the source code.

At least in this case, if Chris is not around, others can continue development if they get permission from Chris.

I definitely think people close to him should send him a "how are you e-mail?".

AHKnow, I'd say you & NeXt hit it right on the head.

FYI, Chris is OK. More to come.

In the meantime, a few "Thank You" notes for all Chris has done over the last five years with AHK, probably wouldn't hurt.
