Thanks for the reponses and interest in the topic.

So far as I know, this kind of issue has been the cause of several posts, and a few people leaving (at least for a short period of time).

Is there any way I can flag this to Chris's attention for further consideration? Does anyone else have ideas?

That's probably the most pragmatic and realistic viewpoint. I think that most people who distribute source code online do so with the understanding that their work may possibly be treated as public domain (thar she blows!).

Although mistaking public domain work as licenced work is probably a 'lesser evil' than vice versa, hence my previously stated opinion.
