I don't know if this is the right forum, or even an appropriate question to ask, but I thought I would try.

Me and my buddy have been creating a script for about a week now, and after working on it and perfecting it I tried to compile it into an .EXE.

The error it gives me when I try to output it is: Error Opening Destination File.

Here is the script:

Code:

That error is typical if the exe is still running. it can't compile on top of an already running exe file.

What do you mean? There is no instance of the script running when I run Auto It to try to output it to .EXE.

It still gives me the same error when I try.

Could be your antivirus, turn it off, compile script, turn it back on

try renaming the file and compiling again?

what folder is the script in? Are you on Vista?

I just tried compiling it, and it worked perfectly. Are you using the "compile" option on the right-click menu or the "convert .ahk to .exe" option in the start menu? I've never had any luck with the first one. :?

I just encountered the same problem. For me, it was a path issue. Make sure that the path where your script is located does not have spaces (i.e. c:\Documents and Settings\...)

encapsulate paths with spaces with " (i.e. "c:\Documents and Settings\...")

Open AVG User Interface (Right click systray icon)
Double Click Resident Shield
Uncheck Resident Shield active
Click Save changes
Close AVG User Interface

Reativate Resident Shield when done compiling.

This happened to me when I "upgraded" to AVG 8. Deactivating Resident Shield did not make the slightest difference. I switched to another AV; problem solved.

I have exactly the same problem.

I use AVG Network Edition (works the same as the free one).
If I disable the Resident Shield everything works well.

As soon as I paid for that antivirus (or at least my company did :D ) I've sent an email to their support service.
They told me that the only thing I can do is adding the ahk script path to the exception list of the Resident Shield.
It works but that's not what I want from a bought antivirus. This way a virus can attack that folder and I have to add any folder I use for ahk to the exception list...

If an admin or someone want to try to resolve this problem contacting AVG support service I can help you sending emails from my account. They usually reply in 1~3 hours. I really would like to resolve this problem but I don't know what to write them.
Maybe you have a more specific / technical mail to send them.

using that instead of the context menu fixed it for me
