So I got this great bold IDEA. While i sat in my room just after waking up I look at my N64 and thought, why cant Ahk have its own game engine designed for single player rpgs? Well i figured I could hack it, and Hack it i did, so what we have here is a map creator. A simple lay out for creating your own little worlds. Then we have a template engine. This engine uses the maps created and can have a "player" (well he looks more like a packman) interact with these maps. For example, you cant walk through walls. So you can create a hall way and rooms and so on that can be explored by your player. However, there is no game without a plot. So I am putting it on you folks to create me a story line, if you would.

It takes several programmers, gfx/sfx designers, quality insurers, beta testers and months of work to make a good ps2 game so making a PC game in ahk would be a mission...

So storyline eh? Umm, I would take a storyline from an existing game like Star Wars and work around it - e.g. loved one turns evil and it's your mission to grow strong+powerful to overthrow the evil and bring them back lol :P *braindump

Well Sfx and production is not my worry, I do that as a hobby and have a editing studio on hand, but I dont dont have game testers... of course that would be me and anyone else who opened it up played and decided to take the time to make a request and/or report the bug. Gfx designers arnt really needed, all images are 20x20 pix.bmp. due to the limitations of ahk. and the fact this lang is not designed for doing half the things I do with it. But you know I wouldnt mind some help on this...even though the project is not difficult, it does require some nifty coding techniques.

I would love to help out on this project as much as i can. I love RPGs and have played D&D, ShadowRun, and many others for many many years now. I am sure i can come up with a story line and plot if need be. I used to love to DM the games and that was all about making a plot.
Now i read you were talking about hallways and rooms.. were you thinking of like a dungon type of game? where you go lower in levels down the Catherdal to stop some sort of Demonic guy that is killing the near by villagers, and you pick up items and spells along the way to make your player stronger.
We got the great Randon Number Generator here already in AHK so that is a step twords getting a good RPG together.
:D

Yes, Dnd... I used to play 3.0 but I have yet to play 3.5. I was thinking about range attack from enemys and decided to scrap what I had yesterday for the most part. Today I am working on Linking item and Events scripted by the user in natural english. Also AI functions that create walls around "floor" types, so that I dont have to manually set up walls and barriers.

Keep in mind...
-This is being developed on Win9x.
-The map has a threshold on 32w and 21h, Each tile or element of the matrix is a 20x20image. So this whole thing looks like the atari. very basic.
-The player cannot move diagnally. Up, down, left and right is all.
-Many items(the images rather) have yet to be created, however my side-kick is making several hundred floor patterns, wall types, and items(treasure boxes and what ever he can think of) I did give him a DMG and PHB for ideas.

My goal is to have the map editor compile the final project into a playable game. That way, I can release it here and we can all use it, being able to make your own mini games, or elaborated ones if you want.

Sweet! this sounds like a very cool project. I love old games like that. some of them are still the best. I used to code games like that in Basic. lol
10 Goto 20
20 Input Text...
hehehe

so how far is the Map thing along? it sounds like you got someone working on graphics so that is cool. let me know what you need help with. I am starting on a little story now.

Hi,

I've played Hack and NetHack several (ok a lot of) years ago. There is no graphics more than coloured ascii characters, and I don't believe for a simple game you need more than this.

Anyway, what kind of game do you thought (fantasy, scifi, or our real world)?

The map editor is done, I can add/del tiles of types (coins, walls, floors, traps...) But I wont release it untill the event editor is done because a good game base needs events to occur when certain conditions are met(player walks near this item, prompt some plot text. Or Player gets this item, unlock this door. Or Player gets this item, increase this skill)for it to be fun. Any way, If all goes well perhaps in the next two weeks. But I dont know what I am going to do about sounds. I have a butt-load of sfx I have made over the years but including them all in a download for use with events may mean the file size could be gigs. So I might not include them, but let the users download them from free sites(there are many, just google).

I <3 the idea .. I just have 1 thing that I wanted to change, why not a MMORPG instead of RPG... [MMORPG - Mass Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game]

I understand that it would be much a hard task to acomplish, but it would be fun having all the AHK ppl playing a game together ^^
