So are there still any plans for this kind of integration?
No firm date or design yet, mostly because of a lack of knowledge on my part, and also because of the expectation that only a very small percentage of users would benefit.

Create a library providing all the AHK keyboard handing functions (including hotstrings, creating the necessary hooks and event loop) to python.
Although it doesn't support hotstrings, one thing related to this is AutoItX, which is a DLL/COM control which can add features such as Send and ControlSend to other programming/scripting languages.

LUA is a nice language and it should be pretty straightforward to integrate it into (or make at least accessible from) AHK. I have had a very cursory glance (VERY cursory) over the required steps and it seems doable.

Another thing I am pursuing is integrating Perl. I am one of those old-fashioned guys who learned the ropes before Python and PHP came around, so integrating Perl would be a boon for me. Embedding Perl should not be really difficult, I must just find a time slot to do it :)

I would probably do the integration via a few DllCall()s but once the stuff actually works, I imagine it should be easy to integrate the code (perhaps as a new command) into AHK itself.

Thanks. I'll look forward to seeing your findings.

There is also an API by Microsoft called Active Scripting. I think quite a few other languages use this to glue in support for VBS and other scripting languages. Here are some links:
