tank: I've heard a lot of positive news regarding Windows 7 and downloaded the RC a few days ago. I'm sure the following will be the source of much discussion in the coming months but I have to ask:

Do AutoHotkey and Windows 7 like to play together?

Any scripts relying on the old taskbar don't work, for obvious reasons. (For instance, Extract Informations about TrayIcons.)

I've been running Windows 7 since shortly after the beta was released, but I'm currenty running the RC. I don't recall having any other AutoHotkey-related issues; I've managed to avoid UAC issues completely since switching from XP to Vista (by disabling it).

One question! How many processes and services were running when you just installed?

I haven't a clue. I had no reason to check.

Currently I have 56 services and 44 processes running, including Task Manager, 3 instances of AutoHotkey.exe and at least 8 other third-party processes. Some processes contain multiple services (with as many as 12 services in one process). I see only two third-party services. I'm not sure how that information could be of any use.

I've been using windows 7 since the beta in february. All of my ahk scripts work just fine, com+ funktions, control iTunes, send, gui's exc . everything seems just fine.

I use it on my main desktop and on my pc in the office.

If you haven't upgraded yet, it's about time.

How about no? There's only release candidates available so far, so I'll wait till there's an official release.

Well, the lesser useless process and services for our needs, more performance we have, right? That was to see if M$ has reviewed some ugly policies to enable by default some services that helped in nothing just to guarantee that an application used by 0.0001% of the users will function.

My Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate Edition Release Candidate started with about 1.3 GB memory consumption, all visual effects enabled, about 60 processes running, two of which were AVG free and Comodo Firewall.

Seemed high to me, so I checked it out and that's about what everyone with that version is reporting.

Anyway, I'm a gamer, so I installed some of my DirectX9 games and every single one of them either crashed to desktop or locked up the computer. So I get the drivers for Windows 7 and re-install DirectX. Still doesn't work. It was either a hardware issue, Windows 7 issue, or the games were incompatible with a 64-bit OS. I'm not going to bother downloading and installing the 32-bit release candidate.

So I get a copy of XP and install it, all my games work great of course.

Then I see in the news today that Windows 7 got Windows XP Virtualizition today.

MICROSOFT!!!

I have that version. I haven't done that sort of tweaking, so maybe it depends on hardware setup or the presence of certain updates, third-party software, etc.

Today? That's a feature of the RC, which has been around a little while. Unfortunately it requires hardware-assisted virtualisation (Intel calls it "Intel VT"), which somehow isn't supported by my Core 2 Duo E4600. :? It probably doesn't support hardware video acceleration anyway.

Btw, it is supposed to be "seamless" - i.e. applications running in the XP VM appear directly on your Windows 7 desktop. If you've read "news" about 7's XP VM, you probably knew that already.
