I wondered nobody talked about him here.
So I start a topic here. What do you think of Michael Jackson's death?
In my opinion there's too much trouble about him now. Yes, he was a legend, but it's a bit exaggerated.

I don't know if I can really believe his death. I hope I'm not the only to think so about it.

Most folks here don't tend to talk about their outside interests too much and I personally ignored most of the media hoopla around MJ's death, but one of my fondest memories is of Christmas at my grandma and grandpa's in 1982. That whole side of my family was struggling to get by at that time and even for the holidays none of us were very happy. But I got an Emerson boom box and my cousin got 'Thriller' from Santa; we dropped that cassette in the box and my cousins and I had our own little dance party for about three days non-stop. We laughed and tried to choreograph the dance moves to Thriller and Beat It from memory since we couldn't watch them on TV. Grandpa's idea of advanced technology was a dial to rotate the TV antenna and pick up all three or four free channels out there.

We worked furiously on our dance moves on the fast songs and mocked the slow songs with our "ewww girls and boys touching" slow dancing, it was a riot. My grandpa would've whooped us silly if he could have for all the noise we were making and my grandma (who was tough as nails) chided us for him, but even she couldn't help but crack a smile to see us all having such a good time. And all this from a bloodline that isn't known for public displays of emotion or affection, too! Times got better for everybody after that and Christmas always came with bigger and better gifts but that Christmas the one thing we all needed we got, a lift in spirits. No matter what else happened with Michael, his music was the soundtrack to my best Christmas ever and that's what I'll remember him for.

I would say he was the king of Hype, no contest!
He was very good at using talented people around him - getting the best to produce his albums etc.
I find it strange how he is called genius so often, and people who have more song writing ability in their little finger usually are not worshiped to the same extent. If M.J. is a genius what does that make Paul Mcartney then?

Well, considering he [Carlin] died last year, I don't think that would be a problem;
Carlin was, however, a comedic genius and I would have taken him as a neighbor over MJ any day.

Before I end up getting flamed, I grew up with and loved Michael's music;
His death comes as a great loss to his friends, family, the music industry and the world.

MJ was a multitalented genius. McCartney is a good songwriter, but has zero showmanship

He simply doesn't need it.

I really don't know why people think McCartney is such a stellar songwriter. Yeah, his output when he was with the Beatles is excellent (mostly co-written by Lennon), but everything after that? He's by far the biggest disappointment to come from the group's ashes. He was a good songwriter at one time, anyway.

Let him go.. he wasnt the king of anything. He was okay way back when.. but anything he did after 1989 was super lame. I do have two different signed pics by him one from the 80s bad stage and one from the mid 90s.. you so can tell the nose job and other stuff between the two.

and to compair MJ to any of the Beatles is just insane. even Ringo had more real talent then MJ.

It's a publicity stunt, not that that's a bad thing. I really don't understand how anyone could not like MJ.

Actually for my money he did some of his strongest songwriting on 'Dangerous'..."Remember The Time," "Heal The World," "Jam," "In The Closet," "Black or White" (his second most popular song of all-time by global pop chart success), not to mention that he pushed the envelope on video making a little bit further with that album. Did videomaking even matter once Michael faded into the background? And who could forget that Super Bowl halftime performance?! That was pretty much the last time people cared about halftime at any football game, period!

Being the king doesn't necessarily mean you are the best or most talented in a specific area. It is much more about having a dominance over that area for a length of time.

My favorite band isn't the band that I consider to be the best band ever. My favorite band is the band who's music I find most enjoyable to listen to. However, there are many more factors that go into being the best band ever.
