I think all forums should have a sticky topic on the top with the title "IF YOU POST SPAM TO THE FORUM IT WILL BE DELETED IMMEDIATELY!"


This would probably hold back if not all, but some spammers who don't like wasting their time with a new post or topic which is deleted in a short time.

All spam is deleted as soon as a moderator notices it. That goes without saying. I don't think a sticky topic would be any deterrent, since I believe most spam is automated. Thankfully the AHK forum does not have too much trouble with spam. Much less than other forums I've seen. Of course there will always be a certain amount.

And may I take this opportunity of emphasizing that there is no cannibalism in the British Navy. Absolutely none, and when I say none, I mean there is a certain amount.

I'd rather them waste their time, since we delete it reasonably quickly.

Is there a method to contant the moderator(s) so that they can "notice it" sooner?
This is a general question. Sofar, I am please to see the lack of spam here.

generally, some poeple will post (using a guest account) with the name 'Spam Alert', so it shows up in the topic view. This, combined with 'Wrong Section Alert' really jump out at us as mods, so we take care of them before reading the other threads.

Alternately, you can send a PM to a mod, but often, another mod will delete it before most of the mods get the PM.

Lastly, the reason that some of us became mods in the first place is that we are reading every thread anyway, so we can take care of issues as we see them.

So the "Last Post" author shows up as 'Spam Alert', 'Wrong Section Alert' . Is that correct?

I wanna know 'cause I like the forum, and want to help with the trash collection to keep it clean. (so to speak)

Maybe I'm a prude, but I do wish the guest R.T.F.M. would change to R.T.M.
If you know what it stands for, it doesn't need to be said in polite conversation. If you don't know, it's better left unsaid.

It's interesting to note that there are arguments both ways... I had no idea the acronym has been used for over 50 years! In our particular case, the original RTFM poster has been involved with AHK since day 1 (under various pseudonyms) and has earned carte blanche on the forums as far as I'm concerned.

RTFM probably just did the same thing i did which is read the bold print saying there is no WinDeActivate. WinSet, Bottom does do that. it does not de-select the icons. sorry.

Basically trolling the forum with a looking for someone to RTFM at.


But RTFM didn't write "WinSet, Bottom"

And btw, your statement is true only in one specific case. the current script causes "Last Found Window" to be set.
If the script has not, no change occurs. (I hope I got my tenses correct )

I do agree with where this topic is headed. I don't like the whole RTFM acronym during a polite discussion. I've asked a few questions in a very polite manner being patient with the results and even done hours of research before posting, only to get the reply RTFM. I find it rude and disrespectful.

Although I do recall in the past seeing this brought up in a conversation. Someone suggested that it actually stands for Read The Friendly Manual. I don't really remember who said that.
