This is easily the most helpful programming forum on the net along with that AutoHotkey also has GREAT documentation that is easy to search and there is NOTHING AutoHotkey CANT do. You may need some extra libraries and things but anything can be done with this versitile program and helpful community.

I agree with nickjerzey311 comments.

I see many times, a newbie will have a question only to be ridiculed or dismissed.

A newbie can read the same phrase, help file, or statement but due to lack of experience will not realize what he is reading is the answer.

the help manual and faq are written by experienced people for experienced people and quite useless for newbies.

However one good example clears the air considerably.

I would like to see some examples of the "many times" a newbie is "ridiculed or dismissed". BTW, at least be courteous enough to register if you're going to dismiss people who come here to help others on their own time.

Written by experienced people = yes

for experienced people = no

I have zero c++/html/anything experience, and am making new and helpfull scripts almost daily.

The coding that I have done has saved the company I work for 6 or 7 digits ($100k - $1.0m) over a year.

This issue is more with people simply expecting everything, without giving anything first. "Do this for me" versus "I have tried this and I do not understand"...apples and oranges.

A little effort, even if it is 'fake' effort, will get a lot more assistance. I have used nothing except the help file and the forum memembers, so your argument is moot.

Well, I took a look at the first page only, because one will see this typical response on every page, I could find a lot more, but my point is the same, a newbie may not understand what he is reading, so keep pointing him to constanly rereading abstract (to a newbie) is a complete waste of time. example first page of "Ask for help" and found this, every page you will find the same, so I could provide it, but you seem to only understand what you want instead of what was written.

and was replied by R*T*F*M* was "KeyWait -> Examples"

RTFM response was a waste of time, the newbie may have read that but may have been over his head. The next response was meaningful and helpful,

Larry you said ONLY to be ridiculed... R.T.F.M. Is not a very helpful guy. His answers are accurate but harsh. And almost all problems are solved within three days or atleast solved. Show us a unresolved thread where the asker was "ridiculed"

typically i do the ridicule on this forum almost exclusively after a user new or old has obviously made no attempt to use an answer given read the manual or try something himself

In addition guest posters often get almost no help because well why bother they wont get a notice if the post is responded to and what if the person responding has clarifying questions..

No answer will come to impatient folks who are obviously un willing to wait, post a clear question, register, try things even things they dont understand. who among the forums core group of helpers hasnt learned much from simply trying code that looked like jibberish only to slowly disect it untill it began to make sense

I must be slacking cause i didnt even get a chance to ridicule this user

having now read the origional posters question and thread i find myself doing something surprising(tank isnt gonna open a can of beat down)

first here is essentially whats wrong

It seems you need keystrokes perhaps at the driverlevel and this may not in fact be possible with ahk

second by starting this thread you just identified yourself as a forum flamer

third many times if you post the code you actually tray and the results of which lines worked and didnt you will 9 times out of 10 get better results

As I see it, we the teachers need to be a little harsh.
people these days beg for stuff and want everything done for them. The only way they will listen is if they get yelled at or punished.
We need to be harsh to get it into your thick skulls.

I'm what I consider "evil nice".

my work flow:
  1. if a noob doesn't show they tried, I will be a little rude and refer them to related document links.
  2. if they still show no effort or get pissy, then I become a troll. This is where most of the noobs fall.
  3. if they show they tried, I will help a little.
  4. if they show they are seriously trying to learn and are trying their best, I will then write code for them to guide them.
  5. if they got more questions, depending on my mood, I may help or ignore.

Another person that has put no effort forth ranting.
If you want to learn, ATLEAST, read the tutorials and go through the documentation

Fry has not read this thread, my point is simple, a newbie can read all he wants, may have read everything, but whats the point if he does not understand it, he may only need a little assistance, but to just say keep reading the manual/faq, does nothing to help, Fry has not read this simple point.
