Hi,

I am using a HP machine. Whenever I use headphones, i would like to mute my system speakers. I want to hear sound only from my headphones but not from the system speakers.

How to do it? Please suggest.

Syed

If I understand you right, you can't do it manually via Windows.
Then I guess an AHK (or any other) script can't do it as well.

I am using an HP notebook and when I plug my headphones in the system speakers are muted (otherwise I'd wake the baby).

Maybe you have a hardware problem?

Since my system has inbuilt speakers, I am unable to switch off it.

Any suggestions ?

...only a lame one: get a pair of wired headphones or a microphone or even just the right sized adapter...something that has a plug that will fit & shove that in the headphone/speaker hole...but still use the wireless headphones for actual listening...if plugging something into the headphone/speaker hole doesn't automatically mute the main speakers, then I dunno...but this should help the wireless guy...

Syed: you didn't elaborate on your situation...Desktop/Laptop? Wired/Wireless Headphones? Where are the "main speakers"? Does plugging something in (any hole, look for all headphone/speaker-like holes) automatically mute the main speakers?...oh wait, is the newest poster Syed, the same as the orig poster syedameen?...I just noticed the similar name...

I've never encountered a computer or anything that didn't automatically mute when plugging in headphones. I actually have the reverse problem, I would like the option to override muting the speakers when I plug in headphones (I want sound out both {sometimes})...

I had the same problem - I have HP-Compaq laptop too. And the problem is probably that you are using the sound drivers that come with Windows Vista/7.

All you need to do is to download and install the proper sound drivers for your specific laptop model from the official site. This worked for me. See if does for you.
