...we can move them all day long, we need to find out how to help people NOT POST IN THE WRONG DAMN SECTION! I recommend immediately moving S&F below Wish List in the Sort Order & see if that helps...& maybe moving Announcements below Ask for Help, since if they try to make a new topic there it will fail!...

Jaco, have you been keeping track of the number of errant posts in S&F since the sub-heading was changed?

What I have observed is that people use a search engine to figure out who
might be able to help them (in this case, us fine folks at AHK Forums), then
just click the link they found to get here. They end up in whatever forum
they got directed to and, because they've never been here before, they just
post the question there. I don't see many ways around that.

...I see one way...it would require editing the template/code for posting.php?mode=newtopic...upon clicking that, it would ask them to classify their post (even tho the link they clicked already knows what forum it's trying to be in)...

...I would also wanna limit that screen to the 1st 5-10 posts a person makes (with an option to always show it if people want it)...

A much simper edit to that template would be a note/warning...

...it's much easier to add static text to a template then to add a radio button/listbox selection list (that works)...

If it's not obvious, I am offering to research & implement either of these suggestions, the static text option I could do in my sleep...the functional radio button/listbox option would require much testing...I could cut the difference & just make the list of options just redirect to the correct forum...(instead of handling the forum input separately)...

your suggestion seems to make the assumption that people cant use the instructions plainly displayed in front of them which will of course be no different with any idea.

I am a developer for many intranet sites in a large corperation and i can say no matter how well you hold the hand people will do other than an application is designed simply because they refuse to pay attention and nothing more

it wont slow them down and it will make folks who responsibly use this forum for its simplicity decide to use it less

the MODs do an excelent job handling misplaced posts

the only effective wish to solve this problem would read like this
I feel im bout to get added to a signature again I WISH...
only people interestied in learning from examples have searched using constructive wording and have tried similar examples and post those examples while natively speaking the primary language of the forum would register first and then post a concise detailed problem statement and examples of failed attempts to solve the problem would post anything in ask for help.

Not scientifically, no; but it's made a significant difference based on my experience. Unless the other mods have been moving more of them, I would say it’s cut back about 50% (which was the original goal).

In fact, this Fall has seen the most misplaced posts in Bug Reports, so perhaps that forum warrants a sub-heading of its own. I think half of the posts made in Bug Reports over the past few months have been user errors (i.e. already explained in the documentation) and nothing wrong with AHK itself. An appropriate note might read, “If you suspect a bug, please post in Ask for Help first to verify it.” I fell victim to this myself. There are very few users with the ability to individually verify a bug, and the Ask for Help forum produces faster responses nine times out of ten.
