Yeah the Toshiba Satellite L650-01H and the MSI A6200-220US look alright and I'll keep them in mind.

I'm personally saving up for an asus g73 maxed out with a 160g intel ssd, a 500gb sata, stock vid card(will upgrade later) and the top i7 they offer, and the 16gb of 1333mhz ram (bit excessive, but i plan on wearing the laptop out for quite some time - basically till i'm done getting all of my college degrees in a decade and half), plus some other things aswell.

The g series are the only laptops worth buying from asus IMO.

There is not a huge 'aftermarket' for laptop mobile chips. I have never actually seen a 'stand alone' laptop graphics card for sale outside eBay.

It would be sweet if you could just keep swapping out laptop parts like you can with a desktop. Cheaper too, i imagine.

yeah, it's kind of a pain to swap them out, but it can be done...
If you get a nice gaming laptop(or other higher end laptops), swapping out parts are generally a breeze due to a access door/panel in the bottom of the laptops...
I have seen a couple laptops that were in the range of 6,000+ for maxed out settings, but they did have triple video cards and the more common double video cards running in sli mode...

But my particular model(and many others) the video card is part of the motherboard... it can be swapped out but it involves saudering (sp?) and un-saudering (sp?) parts from the motherboard, which can be tricky if you've never done it before or know what exactly you're suppose to be doing...definitely not recommended to the average user...

To be honest, I'm just going to get 8gb of ram to start with (4 sticks of 2gb), and the one solidstate drive, and probably wait for good deals on everything else to slowly upgrade the laptop over the next year or two and then sell it all maxed out and buy a new one...we shall see though...

you cant upgrade video on a laptop without actually ripping the vidio from the main board and to my knowledge you cant actually buy a laptop video card you have to by a better laptop to rip it out of

bet the best video card in your laptop you can buy

As of recently, Sony has some of the best tech support - for one thing, their techs don't use troubleshooting scripts and if the call gets escalated you don't have to start from scratch explaining your problem all over again.
I have no knowledge about the quality of their machines, though.

Very contrasting views, have heard that Dell is bad from some people and that it is great from others, in fact it seems like people either love it or hate it. Which seems to be the general feelings towards every brand of laptop manufacturers, I've heard now from several people not to go with Dell, HP, Toshiba, Sony, Acer, IBM, Apple, etc. But I've also heard that Dell has great customer service, or that HP has rarely given anyone problems or Apple has best customer service etc.

.. So I'm at the point now where I'm just going to pick a laptop I like and pray it doesn't break down because it seems there is complaints about every manufacturer's service out there, as well as compliments.

That being said, I much appreciate the views of everyone on this thread, despite how contrasting they may be.

Thanks for your time guys. :)

+1

Also, I do have to give Apple props on their customer service (I'll skip over the Apple flameage).
I use to work for them in the Customer Service department, and they are by far the best customer service I have ever heard of...but there are some bad apples (no pun was intended) in the customer service department that don't do what they're suppose to...but that's like every company...
I'm stating just about their policies.
