To me, this is the ultimate hurdle that if AutoHotKey could get past, would make it thee must have programming application.

OLE/COM would allow AutoHotKey to interface more with MS Office applications like Excel, Word, etc...

If AutoHotKey could do OLE/COM/ActiveX it could be many users primary interface and they could do without VBscript in many cases or CONVERT VBScript to AutoHotKey.

I know COM/OLE would be a cool feature to have. The reason it's not the highest priority right now is that:

1) Fewer than 1% of AutoHotkey would likely use it. This is because AutoHotkey's primary target audience is non-programmers. This is not to say that programmers do not use it -- quite the contrary in many cases, since it often frees them from the tedium of low-level design work, message loops, etc.

2) I have no programming experience in this area, nor as far as I know do any of the others who have written code specifically for AutoHotkey.

are you sure, Chris? I've read lots of posts about it, for example controlling iTunes would be very easy with that and getting infos from iTunes is only possible with COM because WinGetText or ControlGetText doesn't work there.
