Perhaps it would be best if this forum is opened to the public because it might be of some historical value. It might also have future use for development discussions should anyone wish to use it that way.

On the other hand, it would add clutter to the forum because most visitors probably aren't that interested in the content here.

If there is anything particularly sensitive in here that anyone would want kept private, please let me know.

Either way is ok with me as well. A question to all: is there any concern this forum will become just another wish list if it goes public? Or maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing; nothing really happens here. I guess any action is better than no action?

In a few weeks, I was considering hiding the Announcements forum (and the Dev forum if it becomes public). They'd still be accessible, just missing from the list of forums.

Hopefully that would simplify things and keep the focus on the active forums. But if either hidden forum became active again or someone wanted to use them for something, they could be unhidden.

That may be for the best. I voted "Other".

Voted "other" too...
I suggest to make a new section, like the General one, at the end of the forum list. Put Announcements and Developers there, perhaps as read-only, and name the section "History" or "Archives" or something.
Or allow people active on AHK forks (and perhaps other binary utilities like SciTE4AHK and Notepad++ lexer) to put announcements there, as they don't really belong to Scripts & Functions (but managing who can post there can be a hassle).

I don't think there's any way to combine 2 or more forums under one heading without merging all their topics chronologically into one big forum.

I already enabled write access for moderators to the Announcements forum. I could also give someone (if anyone wants it) the ability to control who has write access.

In any case, if anyone thinks they might begin using Announcements, I can leave it visible. There is no hurry because it will be at least a couple weeks before it's hidden.

Mr.Chris, A hidden forum section for moderators would help.

Would it be possible to automatically give someone access after they reach a certain number of posts? just a thought...

There's a new section for moderators? Is it hidden from moderators too, or is it just me? ;)

Oh, thanks. The permissions had to be changed in two places. Now the Moderators forum should show up for moderators.

I believe that would require an alteration to the code.

I voted yes, in the spirit of open source discussions like this should be made transparent to the wider community as they have value which generates more interest.

However since Chris has stopped development we could save space on the forum by moving all threads in Developers to Wish List and renaming that section to Suggestions.

On a related note I don't see the point of having a Moderator section, we've managed for years without one and activity on the site doesn't appear to be increasing.

Out of curiousity, what is the site viewership like? I'd be interested to know how many unique visitors it gets per day, average number of posts per day, and anything about new versus repeat visitors say from week to week or month to month. Chris, can you post whatever stats are collected?
