simple hot-keyed scripts.

I see a lot of you use it for generalized scripting, as opposed to perl, python, VB, or powershell. I too could build a house out of earwax, but that isn't what it's meant for though, so who'd want to?

You answered your own question ;-) Not everyone is a programmer or works in IT or has a strong interest in programming in general to learn all those languages or knows that something is better done in language X.
With ahk you start of easy (hotstrings, hotkeys) and many probably stop there, but also many progress slowly over time to more complex things (relatively speaking) to automate their non-IT jobs...

I am in IT and a programmer and AHK does do manythings better than those other environments. but each environment has its unique strengths
