Call me naive or whatever, but I can't seem to wrap my head around why people seeking help post in the wrong sections.

I'm talking about legit requests for help, not spammers or people here just to stir up strife in our community.

It can't be due to numbers related to forum activity. If that were the case, every AFH post would be in the AFH section. It is clearly the most active section of our forum.

I would hope that it isn't just to spite the text under each forum link in the index.

It seems to me like some of these people don't read anything on the page, they just close their eyes, click, see what they got, then repeat until they notice that they magically got the post a new topic page :/

Do these people have no sense of organization?
Do they think (some times correctly) that they will get an answer quicker if they post in the wrong section?
Do they just want to give the mods something to do by moving their thread?

Granted, a blatant request for help stands out when in the wrong section, but it also runs a higher risk of a less-than-friendly reply and not getting any help.

EDIT:
I think I may try asking one of these posters in the next thread that I notice... :P

8/10 people on the road are idiots. True or false? - a final exam question to get your driver license in Ohio.

This is true for anything not just the road.

human nature actually

Many only read the first couple words

they see scripts and functions and go "oh i need help with a script" and post. there really isnt a way to fix this. its a small percentage of folks to lazy to actually read the screen.

Some will go oh i have a bug with no concept of bug in script vs bug in AHK and post there.

same with wish list.

It is an unfortunate truth that the easier things get the more ineffective man kind will get at doing it

I have a feeling that my first post here was a request for help which I posted to the Scripts & Functions forum

My reason was that I had a task which I wanted to automate. I had heard of AutoHotKey but didn't know if it could do the job I wanted. I read the quick-start guide and had a little delve into the documentation but still wasn't completely sure. I didn't want to invest too much time and effort in something which may, ultimately, not be what I was looking for.
I decided to visit the forum just to ask a simple question about the functionality of AHK and to see if what I was proposing was possible.
Of course I now know that the Scripts and Functions forum is for scripts and functions but as someone with no exprerience in any coding or scripting i was only just coming to terms with what a script was, let alone a function.
If I had stopped to read the tag line for the forum I may have chosen more wisely but I had just had my mind expanded a little too quickly by the quick-start and docs and was (more than) a little sloppy.

It is obvious when you stop and think and read that Scripts and Functions isn't for questions about AHK but the only places that this is mentioned is in the tag line and in the sticky (which is in the ask for help forum).
To my mind it may be a good idea to have a link at the beginning of the quick-start guide which guides new users directly to ask for help.

It's actually Google's fault. These folks seek solutions by Googling for answers. Google will list a number of AHK topics that may seem to fit their needs and they jump right to the topic, never seeing the categories listed on the main page of our forum.

My first post was misposted in the 'Wish' forum. I initially intended to post it i. ask for help, got lost a bit, and ended up posting it there. I tried, lol. At the time I hardly knew what Scripts & Functions meant :/
