I have a fairly large script that a very large number of people are using to help them with an online game. This has gotten me, as well as the other website administrators in which it's advertised curious as to the exact number of downloads.

The script is hosted on AutoHotkey.net. However, I've not seen on that website as to the number of downloads.

So my question is this: What is the best way to go about tracking the number of downloads a script gets hosted on AutoHotkey.net? Could I possibly somehow use Google Analytics?

Thanks in advance from the help!

Not sure if gathering statistics would fall under g.

h. Upload any material that is unrelated to AutoHotkey including but not limited to game fansites.

You could host it at Google Code where you do have download stats available.

I don't believe it'd break G. The reason being is that I'm not collecting personal data - simply the fact it was downloaded.

The way I've done it until I find a better way is using DStats.net. The way I did it was:
http://dstats.net/download/http://examp ... ledownload

DStats.net records that a request for that file was made and redirects to it. It works great with the file that contains the most up-to-date version number and download link for that version.

I may try Google once I get a bit more time to switch it. :P.

I assume like any stats program it tracks IPs, some would say that is personal info.

Every website tracks your IP. Even if I still had it download that resource directly through AutoHotkey.net, the admins of AutoHotkey could see their IPs and number of downloads I'm sure. The same goes for downloading images from certain image hosts, etc. :P.

The problem is not the AutoHotkey net owner(s) but the person using it for hosting (you) and the version visiting it (me). You gather personal info (IP+other info) from me by using a statistics program. I agree it would be nice if a simple counter could be made available on AutoHotkey net (just a viewed X times, not location, IP, browser etc). Of course it also depends on how AutoHotkey net owner(s) define gathering data.

Maybe we could get the administrators of AutoHotkey.net to add it?

I used to know the names of those who ran AutoHotkey.net, but it's been so long since I've used it I can't recall. Lol.

polyethene runs & hosts http://AutoHotkey.net , http://IronAHK.net , and http://ahk.me (a URL-shortening service). He also hosts AutoHotkey.com (although Chris "runs" it) AFAIK
