Since we're on this topic, here is a list of free web-based email services that I know of. I've not tried them (except spymac, which is kinda slow). So, I don't know about their quality, TOS, etc.

Heh heh. Fools. I've been using Bluebottle for months now, and it has to be the best mail client I've ever seen, anywhere. Unless you have massive amounts of incoming mail every day or you use mail for file transfer purposes, the 250mb storage limit shouldn't be a problem. It has a very nice interface, as well as POP3 and SMTP support. But all the features pale in comparison to the real reason it's the best... it has legendary spam blocking. Sure, tons of e-mail sites claim to do that, but the filter at bluebottle has never failed. Once. As in, ever. It works so well because it goes backward: it automatically assumes everything is spam and uses multiple authentication systems to let the real things through. You could even use bluebottle to guard your existing accounts. Seriously, Bluebottle's been a lifesaver for me.

www.bluebottle.com

Check it out. This isn't fake, and no, I don't work for them, but thanks for asking.

I have issues with Gmail, they not only scan the user's email but also the email of those who send to a Gmail account, this raises some serious privacy issues. I will be avoiding conversing with Gmail users.

Besides, Bluebottle does all I need and more.

I have my own mail server

and web server on my PC, i use FedoraCore3 - apache+dovecot+postfix+mySQL+squirrelmail+spamassassin

no limit on inbox, attachment size, no spam, access from anywhere, total control and privacy

total cost was 8 dollars to register my own domain name

way way better than relying on someone else and it's nothing like as hard to set up as you'd think at first.

LOVE open source!!!

I have a similar setup using RedHat 7.3 and SquirrelMail (no domain name here though) and agree :) but the free services can be handy at times. Thanks for the links :).
