Hi folks!
This seems not to be a proper question for this section of the forum, but I noticed that's about "general help about AHK", am I right? This question will do good for the AHK community.

The problem is, I can't convince people to use it. Only I know how wonderful it is. When I show (some of) the features it can do, people say things like:

  • I'ts kinda nothing has changed;
  • It's for the lazy ones, I prefer typing the whole thing;
  • It's not trustworthy;
  • I can't get the thing at all;
  • What's the difference between resizing a window from the border and resizing from the inner area? (NWD feature);
  • I don't want those strange files in my pc. (when I download my compiled script to use instantly in other peoples's pc's);

I try explaining them the hotstrings feature, but they call it 'nerd'; I try showing the hotkey function to open some programs, they say it's useless, that they can go through the start menu and stuff...

"ok, but's what's the big deal?"
TBD is that I became too dependant of AHK that I think people should use it too. Like that saying: "when you're happy, you want everybody to be as well".
How do I convince them?

I am a good position of being able to 'force' people to use my AHK scripts/apps, so I cannot help you :cry:

You are better off going the skrommel-way: create a script based on a request.

So, ask your collegues/friends/family what they are missing, what they would like to have on their computer, what repetitive actions they do, then write a script based on their wishes, compile it, give it to them, and you might succeed.

Don't even bother explaining everything, that you are "scripting", how you do it, what could be done, and that they should install AutoHotkey so they could do things themselves, in other words: don't pound on the fact that it uses AutoHotkey, most users don't care...

And then if someone tells you how much they like your little application, then you can tell them about AutoHotkey, and they even might be interested.

:wink:

Hmmm, seems to be a wise procedure... It's noted!

Anything else? :D

use fraces like:
- i dont trust programs i havent written my self
- my script dose wot i wont it to do, and thats it. no mumbo jumbo.
- wye download a big program wen you only wont one function
- this program i cotum made for my way of using a computer.
- this script is somethin i wrote to save me alot of time.

Ever since I built a knowledge library (with AHK) to replace our old Lotus notes KL, I've had an app that everyone keeps up all day long. Because I'm able to push updates automatically I can add enhancements whenever I want.

Of course, some people may not use all of the enhancements that it provides, but they are there!

For me, the KL was the 'Killer App' - Once management saw that, they've let me do what I want. If you can demonstrate how AHK can create a huge benefit, you'll convice people to use it.

Coming to your desk, watching you fiddling with that really annoying login procedure of an app, yeah, that one which is torturing you since ages.
I'm mumbling "Ah yeah, I hate that too, fortunately I build my self a script to do the whole thing with a single click of a button", I twinkle and go away ... :wink:

I built a front end to our web based customer call database. It added some nice features for our call center people, and they all use it all day long.

Things my script does that applies to many work environment problems:
Auto-login
Auto-user detection (based on windows login)
Auto-refresh
highlight listings with your name on it
calculate priority of calls based on call center rules
allow more than 10 things to be listed at a time
adds shortcut keys to fill out forms quickly

Yea, I kinda agree, I have problems convincing people to use ahk too.
Most of the time it seems way too complicated for them.

I gave up the convincing business, most people don't use the pc that much , so why spend for ever and ever teaching them when they won't even use the superior AHK functions anyway. :?
