I found the L2Walker bots (Lineage 2) much more advanced. They had packet generators for the AUTH server, also memory hacks, a protocol service for the Login server, etc. It was practically a rebuild of the game without the DirectX GUI.

The game probably lacked bot detection. RuneScape uses a java client which makes it slightly more difficult to hack since memory is managed in a virtual machine and all packets are encrypted with a 2048-bit key. Wow and other MMOs don't invest this much into prevention as they tend to mass-ban rule breakers without warning.

Until they made those bot clients, yea they lacked it. Now they have something that has yet to be cracked.
