I have since uninstalled Avira. It was slowing down my dated laptop too much, and kept telling me that WPE Pro is a virus.
Unless a certain nephew is visiting, I don't need AV protection anyway.

I've wondered this for a while:

I've NEVER EVER had a single virus or system error (ok, 1 BSOD and one virus from Maplestory, but that IS a virus) and I absolutely HATE anti-viruses (I considered stop using my work computer because the forced me to put on symantec and cisco).

I've noticed that every single system that come into contact with and anti-virus (even a quick scanner) suddenly gets viruses and system problems (which is part of the reason I refuse to come into contact with them).

I'd like do know why that might be and what I'm doing so right that everyone else fails at... and yes I actually have clicked ads before and nothing happens, I leave scripting on and no firewall...
Unfortunately, most of the reason that antivirus programs are necessary is due to people running without antivirus programs installed and thinking that they are not necessary. If everyone would just install a good a/v program, update it regularily, scan regularily, turn on your firewall and stop whining about it, then most malware wouldn't get a chance to spread and/or become an issue... :!: . It's kinda like STDs. Are you going to wait until you catch one that could kill you before you decide that it's important to protect yourself by wearing a condom? If you don't care about your own machine then what about the thousands of other machines that you could be infecting without knowing about it?

My computer has Norton installed and it has survived several years. :?

My first post! Yay! :D

Norton IS the virus.

I disagree, I've never had a hint of a problem w/o an AV, I've never seen a computer survive after being installed with any AV...

That's because of your lack of experience in the field, i have had more computers running NOD32 without having any trouble. It neither prompted me for anything so far. Also, you won't even notice it's running because it barely uses resources.

I know viruses, i know how it works, and i know how to avoid getting them also. But i also know that humans aren't perfect and can make mistakes, which could lead to an infection. I have way too important things on my computer to let that happen.
