if my pc is entitle to free upgrade, can i download it online instead of ordering it online and pay for the shipping cost?

How does one become entitled to a free upgrade to anything from microsoft

i dont know the answer but in the past Microsoft has not provided downloadable OS for production versions

i got a free upgrade to vista, since my laptop was made in a certain time range, but came with XP. I had to fill out a form online, then they shipped me a free vista CD. Home Premium too.

Of course, that PC is running Win7RC now.

When people upgraded from XP to Vista, they immediately got astonished by the visual features and its eyecandiness. Then, the problems started, such as incompatibilities, hogs, uac, other app anoyances, and the natural resource hunger.

When I go from Vista to 7, or even from XP to 7, will I suffer from similar things?

Everybody should keep in mind that Windows always had bad default settings so far. To set it up the way it should be the one need to devote much time about it.

There are some fine articles about this on React OS page which is open source OS developed to be binary compatibile with Windows.

Wow. I had never seen the React OS before. Thanks for the link. I also happened upon the Linux Unified Kernel in Wikipedia, which was similarly interesting.
