However, there are many more factors that go into being the best band ever.

So who do you like then? The band that i listen to everysingle day for the last 15 years is: Phish www.phish.com
www.livephish.com <-- they have a stream that plays Phish music all day long.

My favorite band in Nine Inch Nails. Trent Reznor has written so many great songs and focuses on making an album without filler tracks. However, I would go with The Beatles as the best band because they achieved much greater/wider success and showed a broader range of musical styles. Personally, I haven't ever gotten into jam bands like Phish. I find myself zoning out during songs that extend for long periods and just flow throughout.

The Beatles were great. they would have to be one of the best bands ver.. along with Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd.
Jam bands are hard for some people to get into.. my parents were hippies and it was passed down to me. I grew up going to Dead concerts, so that is what i am used to.
Phish has been around over 25 years now. I have seen them well over 180 times and every concert was different and left me wanting to see more.

I really don't know why people think McCartney is such a stellar songwriter. Yeah, his output when he was with the Beatles is excellent (mostly co-written by Lennon), but everything after that? He's by far the biggest disappointment to come from the group's ashes. He was a good songwriter at one time, anyway.

i completely disagree
most of his masterpieces that were "co-written" by Lennon were in fact written by him only :!:
Paul did have a lot of masterpieces after Beatles broke up. maybe, not in lyrics, but definitely in amazing combinations of beautiful melodies, arrangements and the timbre of his voice :!:

What were they? If you ask people to name John Lennon's great hits or George Harrison's great hits post-Beatles they can do so very easily. I haven't met anyone who could do so that easily with McCartney.

"Live and Let Die"? "Baby, I'm Amazed"? "Band on the Run"? Don't get me wrong, they're great songs but if you ask most poeple what songs they remember from the Beatles members after they broke up I'll bet "Imagine", "Give Peace A Chance", "Instant Karma", "God", "My Sweet Lord" and "What Is Life" will fall ahead in line. And McCartney didn't have an album in the 70s that got anywhere close to the greatness of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band or All Things Must Pass.

McCartney probably had more skills as a musician and songwriter than Lennon and Harrison combined and yet despite his skills he never managed to transcend his association with the Beatles in quite the way they did. That's why he's the biggest disappointment.
