a) you haven't choosen a nick
b) this is a help request, therefore it makes sense at the help section.
c) for the reason of a) I won't be able to support you. For details see below.

@ Chris
if Bill, John or whatever common name/nick has been already taken, its okay to name myself <here enter whatever unique key/string combination you like> as a nickname. I don't see any reason why an initial post shouldn't be easily to identify via its ownership, especially regarding that the number of help requests is increasing. JMHO.

Those of us which have worked at a helpdesk/hotline knows what I'm talking about. There's no way to support efficiently without getting basic information. A name is the most fundamental basic info you can get. I think there's a reason why our parents have "labled" us that way (it might be okay for Homeland Security to identify people via DNA, fingerprint, eyescan etc. but that's another story). If not telling this a beginner means you wait for some time and complain afterwards. If you do it that way meanwhile such a behaviour became a sample/role model and you can't stop it anymore.

So if a subject line is crap and there's no nick you're not able to identify a special post you wanna track for ongoing support. That's a waste of your time, you're getting unmotivated/frustrated and you'll stop to support such a request. That will hit in most of the cases the beginners (those which should'nt necessarily be advised to choose a nick). I don't think that's the way to go.

Those who have complained about that nickname topic (in most cases) aren't willing to follow any rules at all. It's up to them. But it's up to me whom to support. Thx for listening.

@ Guest
That statement is for informational purpose. Nothing personal. It can/should be removed with the move of that post to the help section. Thx again. Happy scripting - and btw - choose a nick

IMHO, one of the main reasons that this forum is so popular is his speed of response (which seems not to be a standard on the BB-scene). So its not only about to have happy (unregulated) requesters, you need happy supporters as well, so we will share the load. :)

We all know that in the beginning a tiny unit is highly flexible, motivated, etc. but once it grows up and becomes a dinosaur-look-like it needs some guidelines/rules/regulatory (OK, it's hard to say: bureaucracy).

No Jonny, you don't have to request a license form for your GgWN.

The following example converts F1 into a NumpadEnter key:
F1::Send {NumpadEnter}

Here's my reasons against it:

1) When a new visitor posts, they often don't know any better because they've never used this type of forum before.

2) I suspect its demoralizing to new visitors when the very first response to their question (especially if it's a well written one) is that they should choose a nickname or risk being ignored.

That's a good point. But if it's the very first response to a Guest's question, I think it does more harm than good. If the Guest's topic becomes lengthy and they persist in not choosing a nick or signing their name at the bottom, that would be a good time to suggest that they do it (to help distinguish them from other guests).

I agree about the bad subject line alerts, especially now that there is a sticky topic in "Ask for Help" that recommends a good subject line. I also appreciate your spam-alert posts because they help me spot and remove spam more quickly.

Thanks.
