Everyone's preference is probably colored by what they use. To add something to the discussion - what do you consider important when it comes to a launchy-type program?

As for me, I value the looks and speed. Autocompletion is one of the most important features.

For me a launcher should:
be easy to customize offer quite a bit of customization, - what drives and folders to check

should not be a resource hog - I was shocked when I tried launchy

Look good and hopefullly offer some customization of looks

For me FARR offered great customization and uses little memory (under 5mb) I think from what I remember launchy would use abt 40mb!!!
Keybreeze and Executor were good on these points too

OffT, but my Launchy only uses 8mb.

OnT, I'll insert some links/screenshots. Note that most of these applications have skins, so don't get all too confused by the looks. Might help someone to see how it looks/feels though.

Screen shots - good idea, although people should bear in mind that a lot of them offer the option to have the full view turned off so that you dont get a list of possible matches just a simple bar like launchy. For myself I prefer having a list. It's nice to have the choice though.

@Sumon what version of launchy - last time I tried it about 6 months ago it was a real hog and when I went to the forum there were many complaints about it's memory useage, maybe it has been addressed now.

@Eedis I have briefly tried E-shortcuts but was not keen. I dont like it when you have to know exactly what you are looking for! If I type in Diana (which is a small calender program) I get no visual feedback - I have to try hitting enter or run button to see if it has found it and will launch it. I would much prefer a list of possilbe matches shown.

Yes, that is true - and they are skinnable too. Still, it's always good with some sort of visual reference, our memory is by nature built to work with associations and visuals rather than text or words alone.

@Version: I use Launchy version 2.6 Beta 2, on a Win64 laptop with good performance. I've set it to Auto updating catalog every 10 minutes. Memory usage varies, now it's higher, but it was 8mb when I checked last time.

Thought I would try the latest Launchy 2.6 beta 2
so far its using 20mb running in the background more than double the other launchers I like
I have most of it's plugins turned off too
It just doesn't seem to want to give up memory - the launchers I like start using more memory when activated say going from 4 to 8mb but then when the search is finished and they are running in the background they go back to using less memory, launchy doesnt
I use about 8 plugins with FARR and it uses way less memory

What to release another one to the race:

Jeeboo

Develpoment seems to be inactive at the moment - but the promised feature look very nice. It's written in AHK (closed source) - when it's ready it should offer the possibility to write plugins in AHK.

I use it in daily work currently and it's already very stable and useful ...
