Starting Out

Sometimes making your first script makes absolutely no sense, so I made a quick video (about 5 minutes) to cover every pitfall I could think of. For completeness it starts in an empty tab, before AutoHotkey is installed, and ends with a Message Box displaying: "Hello AutoHotkey World."

I hope this is helpful to someone.

I added another basic tutorial about solving problems and using available resources.

It's basically "PLEASE READ IF YOU'RE NEW: How to Get Answers Effectively" in a video, with my own touch added to it. (If it's added there I wouldn't complain!)

Amazing :!: Great work with this.

Now just make one to explain what this means, and i'll love you forever:

Class declarations such as Class ClassName now create a super-global variable instead of an ordinary global

Edit:
I love the banana cursor btw.

Do you think a video is needed on the various version of autohotkey?

I know on the download page there is 2 but checking the forms there is H and IronAhk.

Maybe a short vid on what each one if for, where to download, and which ones should be avoided for newbs.

Frankie in you "get help" vid should you mention there are forums for non english speaking folks. Also should have users note which version of ahk they are using when posting their message in forums (may directions on how to find version).

All the vids here are awesome. Keep up the great work.

It means you can access the class from anywhere, just like a function an be accessed from anywhere.

Previously you couldn't see a class inside functions, even if they were inside the class.

vahju, good ideas. I'll redo the video when I have time (tomorrow?)

I like the videos, but I have to ask: Why are you using Screenr?...it's limited to 5 mins & you keep running out of time. Have you tried CamStudio/Taksi/UltraVNC Screen Recorder? (all freeware!)

I'm using Screenr because
  • It works on any platform Java works on (so both Windows and Linux)
  • Alternatives on Linux are shaky (but I may have found one)
  • It very easy to record a screen cast and have it upload
  • The quality is really great

I'll definitely look into this some more, but where would I upload them? Of the few sites I've looked at Vimeo looks the best (thanks to tidbit for the recommendation). I refuse to deal with YouTube quality videos. What alternatives are there?

...in my opinion, Screenr loses, cuz of the 5 min limit. If I was making a screencast, I would not allow them to tell me how long to make it.

...YouTube.

...when YouTube started, there was definitely a problem with "YouTube quality videos"...but now, YouTube can do 720p & 1080p...I don't think there is any problem with YouTube's quality anymore.
