|
|
I have a wireless router and all of the sudden the wireless stopped working. I would not need the wireless router if the same thing didnt happen to my dsl modem, with wireless gateway. Somehow it also got fried, but I think this was due to bad construction of the hardware.
Anyways, my question is, if any of you on the forums knows a decent amount about wireless. Why would Channels 1 - 4 (2.412 - 2.427ghz) stop working, for apparently no reason, but Channels 5 - 11 (2.432 - 2.262ghz) work?
Channels 1 - 4 were previously my strongest channels. Now they do not respond at all. Any ideas? |

| I have WiFi as well and I'm not sure how different it is. Was your router old? I think the two ranges use different parts of the router so only one section was fried..? |

The wireless router is brand new, and the modem with wireless gateway, I had for about four months. The only thing I can think of is it is my xbox360 wireless transponder/receiver that is causing this.
The reason I think that is because when the wireless gateway on the modem completely stopped working, was right after I had disconnected/reconnected the xbox360's wireless unit.
As I said in my first post, it could just be by chance that the modems wireless gateway stopped working. I believe is was most likely bad design, as the modem box would heat up badly, while the wireless was active.
When the wireless router channels 1 - 4 stopped working was right after I unplugged my xbox360 to move it up some, for a better signal. I went through hours of figuring out the exact problem. Eventually finding that channels 1 - 4 no longer worked.
To be honest the xbox360 is just my best guess as to what caused this. I have not moved anything new into my house that could cause interference, but who knows, maybe one of my neighbors did... This is unlikely though, as I use my psp for testing, and can place it within inches of the router.
On a rare lucky chance the psp will be able to detect the connection using its scan feature. It will display at 100% signal strength, but almost instantly lose the signal. This suggests that is could be interference, but doesnt really make sense, because the signal interfering would have to be very strong.
I think I will post on cnet forums, as there is a lot of people there who could know exactly is wrong. If anyone has any ideas from reading the above though, let me know.

Nothing I've dealt with already (will get my WiFi next week ), but it's always the same when it comes to support, details matters: What type/model? Manufacturer? Flash release? etc. You've to support us to support you. |

It's all blck magic (this coming from an electrical engineer). It can be related to antenna positioning, the router might need to be rebooted, or something else is going on. remember that Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz phones are all also sharing that airspace with you at the same or similar frequencies. if 1-4 are weak, use 10 or higher. Also try taking the router and your laptop somewhere else to try it - this checks for interference. _________________

how are you sure your router is the issue? it could be the wireless device your laptop or xbox or PSP is using to connect to the router. i was very disappointed to find that my laptop couldn't connect to my wlan upstairs, but i was puzzled to find that my PSP could. I had an expensive network adapter. i found that my settings were on 20 Mhtz and by changing it to 40 i got connectivity.
i have also read that some wireless phones interfere with channel 1 in particular. anyway toy around with the settings of both devices on the device manager or on the internet as my router requires (BUT REMEMBER YOUR ORIGINAL SETTINGS!!!) and perhaps you'll find a solution. |
