They are for building keyboards.

There are various advantages over ripping an existing keyboard to bits,
often including things like programmability.

You have another option than ripping an existing keyboard to bits. It is easy to use an overlay keyboard with AutoHotkey. Those kinds of keyboards can be configured with hotkeys to activate your macros.
