"DIY-Infared PC Remote Control"

This is a actually a very inexpensive, small, simple, & fun project:

For about $15 worth of radioshack parts,
an old IR-remote contol,
2-freeware apps.,
& a couple of hours,
...you can virtually control anything on your PC.

You can make any button do anything you want:
Mouse moves, clicks
Keyboard stuff
Open programs, files, ect...
send Window commands
... alot like AHK!!!

---Here are the basic resources:

Comment by moderator: You might also want to check out the AutoHotkey WinLIRC Client Script, which responds to signals from a hand-held remote control.

Technically, anything that can run programs/files can run AHK code, if you think about it. Wink Thanks a lot for this, I'll look into it later. It sounds really interesting. To those it may concern, a Palm Pilot's (other handhelds too, possibly, i only have experience with Palm-based ones) infra-red port conforms to the same standards a normal remote does, meaning that with this setup and some nice Palm shareware (haven't run across any freeware that allows good control of the IR port), you could do amazing things with your Palm and PC. I'm already planning to look further into this. If you can program with a Palm, that makes it even better, you could write your own program specifically made to work with AHK!

Yup,

& after you've figured out how to use "IR-Assistant",
I think you'll find it can do just about anything, including launching scripts.
You can even create your own macros with IR-Assistant.

I have it all working, but haven't played with it much yet.
I think it will be nice for playing our music with.
We have a pc-surround sound system that sounds pretty good,
& all our music is on a large hard drive. Click & play. No discs.

We just installed a DVD burner, a DVD player, & an AV in/out card.
Soon, we'll be hooked up to our hometheatre system, & then this remote stuff will really take off!!!
