AWave converts from 100 formats to 50 formats. Its not free thought, but you can try it.

I swear by MediaCoder: http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/

You can also use foobar2000, but for some formats you must download the encoder separately (foobar then acts as the easy-to-use player-cum-converter-frontend): http://www.foobar2000.com/

BonkEnc might also be good, but I've never used it: http://www.bonkenc.org/

All of these are free.
