Can you recommend any excellent software ???
For me the bests are:
AutoHotkey - for automation
Total Commander - for file management
What are your favorites ?
Do you know info/download URLs for them ? |

file compare: WinMerge (winmerge.sf.net)
Synergy (synergy2.sf.net)
Editor: PSPad (PSPad.com)
Archives: 7-zip (7-zip.org)
between those, AHK, and Firefox (with choice plugins), I don't use much other software on a daily basis! _________________

I really like SciTE as an AHK editor / Notepad replacement. _________________ [Join IRC!]

I'm using the following:
Type: Diagnostic, Security & Safety:
HD-Tune for finding disc-errors
TrueImage for Images of my HD (50€)
VMWare for testing viruses, testing programmes before installing them on my "real" system or for only temporary use and similar. Use the 30 day evaluation-version for installing a system and use the free VMWare Player to work with it.
Sandboxie to install tools I'll only use one time, because I can delete it completely with minimum afford (registry-entries are saved to a dat-file). Is also usefull for browsing.
HD-Graph to find big amounts of space if my HD get's full
Unlocker to find the process using a file that can't be deleted. It can unconnect the process or kill it.
Netmeter to have my traffic always in a little window onscreen.
TrueCrypt to crypt parts of my HD.
Type: Internet
Hamachi to play LAN-Games via I-Net.
Type: Multimedia
MP3Tag to (multi) change the tags of my mp3-collection.
PVAStrumento and Cuttermaran to cut my TV-recordings.
Camstudio for recording screen-vids.
DVBViewer to watch TV.
VLC-Player for most of my videos.
Mediaplayer Classic for ogm-Files (VLC doesn't handle them that well).
Type: Programming
APIViewer 2004 to find values of constants.
DebugView for debug-output.
OllyDbg for debugging-purposes (foreign applications).
HxD as hexeditor for RAM and Files.
PSPad for AHK-Programming and other file-types-editing.
Winmerge to merge files.
Type: Management
TotalCommander for FTP and other file-managment.
FoxitReader for PDF-Viewing.
Kompozer for HTML-Editing.
Type: Others
Chainsaw to split files in smaller pieces. Does provide a batch-file to reassamble the file without any software installed.
Trillian for ICQ, MSN, IRC.
FastStoneCapture for screenshots (I've version 5.3. which was freeware, it's now shareware).
MWSnap as alternative.
And many many more. Some are german-only. For the others I was too lazy

...wow!...you trust it?...I was ABOUT to finally download it, then BOOM, sold to the owner of the "Official BitTorrent Client"...& we've all known THAT guy is in bed with the RIAA (Boink!)...so just before I trusted uTorrent...it proved untrustworthy...then, my next hope, Azureus, turned into some Vuze thing...ugh!...my next hopes, if they don't go (or aren't already) bad...is Halite (wiki) & FrostWire (wiki)...haven't DL'd or tried it yet...actually, I've never used ANY BitTorrent client, cuz uTorrent was gonna be my 1st... |

Why do you think I mentioned PeerGuardian straight afterwards? _________________

I love Resize_Enable and can't imagine getting along without it.
I am often presented with small windows that cannot be resized by dragging their borders with the mouse.
Resize_Enable - http://www.digitallis.co.uk/pc/downloads.html
To install Resize_Enable, just unzip it and put a link into your Startup folder. It only needs to be run once - at startup time and that's exactly what happens to executables in the Startup folder.

Make Link is a must have for any forum user (and others). DragAndGo looks like being obsolete in Firefox 2, I can do all this without extension...
My own list of extensions, more or less ordered by my usage: _________________

At one time, I created a web page that contained a list of my favorite freeware. Unfortunately, it is now defunct but I still have the HTML file that
listed the freeware and helped people download it.
Note: I have recently revived it and uploaded the freeware to www.AutoHotkey.net. See the link below.
My most favorite product on this list is Resize_Enable. I use it all the time. I can't believe how often I use it and how much it helps me out.
http://www.autohotkey.net/~JDN/PD/FREEWARE.HTM
By the way, I think maybe this topic might be of interest to other people here. Maybe it might be worth making more well-known? For example, I'm currently looking for a way to make myself more anonymous when I travel on the web. I got a tip on the Tech Support Guy site about a product named Tor:
Tech Support Guy: http://forums.techguy.org/general-security/654753-please-help-me-proxy-server.html
Tor Project: http://www.torproject.org/
Does anyone use this product? If anyone has any good tips for me on making myself more anonymous, I'd surely appreciate your advice. Thanks.
Also, I would love to break free from Windows IE. I've heard FireFox is supposedly much better than IE and I've tried to use FireFox, but couldn't seem to stick with it. I guess I need something really simple to use and simple to learn. If it gets complicated, I find that I just can't stand spending my time trying to figure out how something works when I need to be spending my time working on stuff. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

...yes it is...much better...& safer...

...why not?!...what is "the problem" with it?

...Firefox works like IE...Back is Back, Forward is Forward...what are you needing to do in Firefox that you can't?...
| JDN wrote: | | Any suggestions would be very welcome. |
...Firefox is obvious to me, so I need to know specifically what your first-use problems were/are...what is so bad/confusing about Firefox?...I can tell you tho, that the "vanilla" Firefox, is kinda bland...you NEED to install Addons to make it look better (FOXSCAPE)/do more... |
