There are two reasons that I use concate:
1) The manual uses the same abbr.
2) My CAD system uses the same abbr.

As for your other ideas, hopefully there will soon be a way to concatenate arrays onto other strings, as well as a way to specify a delimiter other than pipe (|). Once that is done, it should be easier to use arrays the way you wanted.
