My personal favorite in this category (a portable version is available) | Quote: | TagScanner is a multifunction program to organize large music collections. It can edit tags of mostly state-of-the-art audio formats, rename files based on the tag information, generate tag information from filenames, and perform any transformations of the text from tags and filenames. Also you may get album info via internet music database freedb.org. Supports ID3v1, ID3v2, Vorbis comments, APEv2, WindowsMedia and MP4(iTunes) tags. Powerful TAG editor with batch functions and special features. Playlist maker with ability to export playlists to HTML or Excel. Easy-to-use interface. Built-in player.
Features:
# Rename files based on the tag and file information
# Powerful multiple files tag editor
# Import tag information from an online database (freedb)
# Manual text-search for information in freedb
# Generate tag information from file/foldernames
# Words replacement and case conversion from tags and filenames
# Full support for Unicode
# Supports MP3, OGG, Musepack, Monkey's Audio, FLAC, AAC, OptimFROG, SPEEX, WavePack, TrueAudio, WMA, MP4 files
# Supports ID3 1.0/1.1/2.2/2.3/2.4 tags, APE v1 and v2 tags, Vorbis Comments, WMA tags and MP4(iTunes) metadata
# Supports for lyrics and embedded artwork
# TAGs versions conversions
# Playlists editor
# Playlists export to HTML, Excel and CSV(e.g. for MySQL)
# Multilanguage interface
# Built-in multiformat player
# Amazon cover art search

Very nice looking app.
Good features too, although I have my favorite (commercial though) Tag & Rename
There is another free one, Godfather with equaly powerful features. _________________

Tagscanner is fast and easy: once you know it, any operation takes only few seconds. The only missing feature is file/folder drag & drop support on the UI (d&d of a file on a shortcut to the program works though) |

| Quote: | | The only missing feature is file/folder drag & drop support on the UI | Thats pretty big failure to me. Tag&Rename doesn't have this limitation, furthermore u open a folder from context shell extension. You can save your renmaing action as a button on a tullbar so if you use it a lot, and you generaly use 1 or 2 patterns, you just open it, click and exit. It also has all that supportive thingies like amazon search, freedb etc.. And its portable. _________________

I have emailed the author for drag and drop support (and covert art search). So now, wait and see.
Tag&Rename seems great, but I prefer stick to freewares (and open source when available) rather than sharewares. |

You can easily find free version. Nothing illegal in using shareware programs for free, if you can "fix" them on certain way.
Anyway, it may be better to ask author for shell extension support, after all, its pretty easy to add it. _________________
