http://www.viemu.com/a-why-vi-vim.html

I know most people here don't use vim... but if you spend ~8hrs editing code, you owe it to yourself. I'll stop preaching now.

I am not a professional programmer, nor an experienced private hacker. Since only two or three years of "sometimes" scripting and just reading some books about programming without much writing useful programs, I switched to Vim. I like it, its really funny and useful.

Currently, I am not that good working with Vim. I hope one day, it will pay out all of the efforts. Beginners, who are not trying to be a powerful user does not need Vim. All others, should at least work some hours with it and learn the basics.

But there is one thing which I dont like much. The ESC key to switch back is a bad idea I think. I dont like using ESC and so I did remap the ESC with CapsLock. Most times, I dont need the CapsLock key and it isnt disabled and just only in Vim. So, why not?

ViM is THE best, once its in your blood.

For hard-core users, there is also ViM for windows and ViM addon for Visual Studio.
