|
|
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a useful way to get help and bounce ideas back-and-forth in real time.
Share and enjoy resources not available or obvious on the forums. Ask stupid questions without creating a new thread.
If you are already familiar with IRC, you can find us on irc.freenode.net in channel #autohotkey.
There are several client options to choose from, each offering a different chat experience, and each connects to the same chat room.
Connect via Web Interface:
These options allow you to connect to IRC without installing any client software. They are great for quick use, but not very customizable.
- mibbit - Free IRC web gateway by mibbit.com
(just enter a "nickname" and click "connect") Connect via Instant Messenger software:
Below are various IM clients that support connections to IRC. These offer the convenience of an IM client (ie: AIM, MSN, Yahoo), and you may already have one installed.
- Pidgin (formerly Gaim) - Open Source [Windows, Mac, Linux]. Offers access to most IM networks and IRC.
(read this tutorial for Pidgin)
- Miranda IM - Open Source [Windows]. Offers access to most IM networks and IRC.
Connect via IRC Client (proper):
These are dedicated IRC clients that take advantage of all IRC features and standards. If you find yourself on IRC for more than a few hours a day, consider installing one of these.
- mIRC - Shareware [Windows]. In development for 13 years. Includes an interesting scripting language. Purchases often donated to Red Crescent.
- Snak - Shareware [Mac]. Snak is a popular clean IRC client in development for 11 years for Macintosh. All purchases are donated to Kiva.
- XChat - Open Source [Windows, Mac, Linux]. 10 years in development, XChat is a popular Linux client also available for Windows and Mac.
- ChatZilla (Firefox Plugin) - Open Source [Windows, Mac OSX, Linux] - Cross-platform IRC client based on the Mozilla SeaMonkey Suite.
When prompted for an IRC server, use: irc.freenode.net (or /server irc.freenode.net)
When prompted for a channel to join, use: #autohotkey (or /join #autohotkey)
Visit Wikipedia for more information on IRC and other IRC Client options.
You can also click this link to automatically connect to the chat room using the default IRC client you may already have installed.
(try it!)
See you there!

You should add KVirc to the IRC client list. It's a very good IRC client, and it's free.
http://www.kvirc.net/
(I only use 3.2.0 best one) |

| It might be good to mention that #Autohotkey is now #Ahk. As IRC will tell you, update your bookmarks. |
