Hello guys. First of all, let me express my amazement at how easy you have made programming. I have some experience with PBASIC (for robotics), tried some Visual Basic Express, some JustBASIC. I found all these languages very good for simple things (like math-related applications). However, really taking control of a computer seemed really hard and I had almost given up. I thought that to create a real and useful program, C++ was the only way to go. And a steep way too...
Then I found AHK. A did some research trying to decide between AutoIt3 and AHK. They both seem quite powerful languages, but AI3 fails in something: None of them is a simple "macro" language. However, AHK makes even more advanced applications really easy compared to AI3. Oh, and I love hotstrings
So, enough of that.
What I am a bit disappointed with though is the general look that AHK presents. I know, you will say that what matters is "what's inside" It's not only like that unfortunately.
Starting from AHK's logo (why that "H" that resembles "Comic Sans MS" when Autohotkey.net uses a very attractive "A" as favicon?) to the fact that it uses AI3's "Window Spy" and the scripts in "Extras" that are supposed to let you use syntax highlighting with different editors but sometimes fail to do what they are supposed to. And then why the default phpBB2 skin?
Obviously all these are naught but trifles in front of the easiness of the language and the possibilities it offers to an amateur programmer.
The most important problem thought in my opinion is the editor. I have spent 3 days looking for the right thing to use among the different threads but in vane - I still cannot decide which combination to use since ISense behaves differently with normal SciTE and Notepad++ than in the SciTE4Autohotkey Package.
I also saw that the matter of including a "patronized" editor with the AHK download is being discussed since 2006 / 2007. Why is it taking so long? There seem to be some promising scripts and packages so that setting up a customized editor for AHK should not be beyond the possible. Of course, I am not complaining but simply wondering. An already customized and ready to use editor for AHK would make things a lot easier for a new comer like me. (I know about SciTE4Autohotkey but there doesn't seem to be a way to change the ISense script included with it. And the package is 1 - 2 years old.)
So, to end this, Chris and the entire team, congratulations and thank you for creating this language. Please, an editor would be greatly welcome.
Kind Regards,
Mandiom |

| I agree with that what you wrote. But Chris is the only real developer of AutoHotkey (core). He concentrates him most of the time to make AHK better and he dont have much time left (after private life is not unimportant). So, that is one of the most problems here, there are not much standards here. The user does get great help from others here, that is the strength. But organizing things, without official organization is not easy. |
