sorry for posting at wrong place
originally i posted it on here Wish List then deleted.
cause i was feeling like i'm wasting forum thread during there's similar thread.
and Oberon.
actually i don't get exactly what was wrong of my previous posting
but if there was any mistakes. pardon me i'm not so familiar with phpBB culture
and the suggestion is just my little wish.
this might be started from wrong understanding of phpBB culture.
but sometimes adoption from different culture would effect positive imo.
it's just an wish as this section says.. _________________ let's support Wiki

you're right.
but how would you find Tips & Tricks in the biggest section of this forum?
there are about 22000 topics now.
finding for 20 tips in 22000 topics?
we can make it easier
what i felt when started to learning autohotkey is NO TUTORIAL at all
gathering tutorials into one place would be helpful for beginners
isn't? _________________ let's support Wiki

Also please don't quote a large part of the previous post as it breaks the liner text flow which makes reading frustrating and difficult. _________________

I've tried to lobby for a separate Tips & Tricks forum in the past but to no avail. I've always thought that the Help forum has grown into a behemoth that still has great value for getting answers to specific questions, but is no place for general purpose learning. Most posts in the Help forum get pushed off the front page in a matter of hours.

Searching is many times a fool's errand. Unless you know exactly what you are looking for, searching the Help forum either returns too many results or if you're too specific, nothing at all. And yes, I think that most people will agree that stickys are not the answer.

I think the key element missing from the forum is a place to learn and a place to share what we've learned. Although the Help forum was originally designed for this purpose, very few use it to share knowledge except in response to specific questions.
A couple of thoughts...
Why do you think SKAN, our most prolific "Tips & Tricks" writer (so far), did not post his tips in the Help forum? The reason is very obvious to me -- The Help forum is no place for this information. His posts would have been lost in the barrage of "I need help!" posts.
Other than SKAN, why do so few people take the time an trouble to write a "Tips & Tricks" post? Once again I would argue that it's because there is no place for it.
A Wiki or a dynamic tutorial would be good but IMHO, a separate Tips & Tricks forum would provide the most value.
Thank you for letting me rant. |

I also think that a tips and tricks forum would be great and that this information is useless when dumped into the Ask for Help forum since there is no index listing for this info. A search could be performed if you know what you are looking for but the forum's search functionality is moody and still time consuming to find specific information in most cases (especially for topics containing multiple pages - the search takes you to page 1 and doesn't seem to highlight past the first page - often the info I'm looking for is several pages in...). It would be great if there was a section that contained useful tips and tricks so that we could browse through and contribute to. This might also be a great place to create FAQ topics |

Yes! It would be great if we had a seperate section for How to's / Tips & Tricks
If it happens, I will split/break down my Tips N Tricks to individual topics.
