Windows XP Pro pissed me off for the last time. I wiped it and installed Ubuntu. Having no experience with Linux of ANY version I'm still figuring things out. Mainly I figured out that my computer feels twice as fast! The main problem is I had so many freakin' hotkeys running in windows and now they are gone!

When will we have a version of AutoHotkey for Linux?

AutoHotkey works with the API of Windows only and will never be ported to Linux or another OS. That is for sure.

Use Ubuntu with WINE (and Wine Doors) - it delivers a standard AutoHotKey version working in mixed mode with Windows software under Linux et al. However: AutoHotKey comprises an .exe that is immediately marked as a potential threat by Anti-Virus programmes (AVG, Avast). This is no immediate massive threat, but a matter of decisions by the individual user. The threat is real.

From that other project's FAQ:
Quote:
First and foremost, AutoIt is a Windows application. It's meant to fill a need in a Windows environment. Mac and Linux/Unix have different needs and their own tools as well. Also, there isn't much overlap in OS capabilities as far as AutoIt is concerned. Even if AutoIt was ported to a different OS, it would be AutoIt in name only. It's unlikely that the functionality provided would mirror AutoIt on Windows.

Such a port would be wildly different from AutoHotkey. Fortunately, there are a number of projects that do do that.
