|
|
@Chris: I'd like this to be a surprise, so if you're reading this, please click back as there are spoilers ahead.
@Everyone Else: Highlight the text below to read it...
AHK has helped me out very much and since I'm too broke to donate what I feel it is worth, I'd like to do a fundraiser in order to gather donation money to give to Chris. I have a vinyl plotter that I can use to cut stickers to send to people who make a donation (should I use a set price per sticker or a 'give what you can' model?). The stickers will be some sort of AHK logo. The stickers would be a single color but I will have several colors to choose from.
I'm still very much in the planning stages, but the way I'm seeing it happen is that people will donate to a separate paypal account that is owned by a moderator or other trusted community member (I have a paypal account but will not use it due to questions that might raise as to my intentions).
Once someone makes a donation to that account, the account owner would let me know and I'd mail out the sticker(s). At the end of the fundraiser there would be a big donation into the AHK paypal account.
The two reasons that I don't think that it is a good idea to have people donate directly to the 'AHK' paypal account:
(Assuming that only Chris has access to this account)
I don't want to take up his time telling me who has donated.
I'd like the final donation amount to be a 'surprise' to Chris rather than coming in bit by bit.
So, please let me know if you think this is a good idea and I should continue with it, or not waste time on it? Is anyone willing to be the 'treasurer' for this (as I mentioned, I'd feel better if it were a mod or 'trusted' member)? The poll is open for 2 weeks, so please vote! _________________ [Join IRC!]

@Everyone else: Highlight below to read... (make it "unreadable" by putting it between color tags, and use #EFEFEF as the color value)
I like the "surprise" idea, it will however be difficult to use/create a "safe" PayPal account for this, who are you going to trust? And: PayPal will probably block it as soon as too many payments go in (suspicious activity for PayPal), so nobody would probably be willing to use an existing PayPal account for it either.
Just my 2 ct. (well, not yet for real) |

I've never used PayPal, but how would a bunch of people sending money be different than high active ebay sellers?
Do we really have to changing the color? If he scrolls past the first post to read, then what is to say he won't highlight it? |

I think it's safe to not hide the text past this post - Is there anything easier / better than paypal? I'd rather focus on the design / creation / distribution part of it than the payment one... Anyone have a good idea? _________________ [Join IRC!]

Cafe Press would cannibalize the revenue - I can create and mail these for free*, so 100% of the donation goes to Chris...
*I have the materials and hopefully I don't go broke on shipping
Edit: Here's my 1st design idea:
The one on the left with the red is just for fun - The sticker would be single color, like on the right... _________________ [Join IRC!]

Would someone mind to create a set of icons out of that (a green AND/OR red set)?
Not yet voted. Anyway. I'd join as well |

@BoBo²:
I'm not too good at creating icons (I usually just convert a single 32x32 image) but if someone can tell me what sizes / format they need, I'll gladly provide the images.

Kweso is the creator of that logo, and it would be rude of me to use it without his express permission. If he allows it, I will certainly make that one an option.
| imapow wrote: | | - how about opening a ahk-shop were u can bye cofiecops t-shirts ore stickers with the ahk logo. | I think this is a good idea as well, and I'd actually like to see something like this (separately from this fundraiser) but I'm of the opinion that it's inappropriate for anyone other than Chris to open a shop at CafePress (or a similar site). _________________ [Join IRC!]
