There is a site called acidtests.org that tests your browser's web compliancy (believe it or not virtually no one follows the rules). Check it out and don't be intimidated by the name.
Here's the results of acid test 3 tested on 3 windows XP computers:
IE gets an epic fail with a whopping 4/100
FireFox 3 gets a 71/100
Safari gets a 75/100 |

Opera 9.50 passed acid 1 and 2 and 85/100 on acid3
Again, Opera is most standard compliant browser around.
But IE is lol.. _________________

Whether or not my beloved Firefox is 100% compliant or not, I have not encountered a web page yet (besides the test, of course) that doesn't appear to load correctly... So I really could care less that it got a C- |

Meh. Mainly because I started using Firefox before I knew Opera existed, and just was used to it. I was going to switch to Opera a while back because Firefox was such a memory hog (although that's been fixed with FF 3) but I just was much more used to FF than Opera..
Plus I love all my FF add-ons |

Yeah, what Krogdor said. Plus, FF 0.9 beta was my first browser other than IE. I love Mozilla.
It is surprising to me to hear that Opera is more standards compliant than FF...I mean, I've seen Opera (9.5) mess up in many places where Firefox didn't (the only one I can recall is at the bottom of the download.com home page).
Maybe Opera just doesn't like me. Sometimes it'll just stop loading web pages on me. Sometimes, when loading a Java applet, it will crash. _________________ I slit the sheet, the sheet I slit,

(so newer IE = worse?? microsoft fails lol) Though I gotta ask, did whatever version of IE you're using have big red letters saying "LINK TEST FAILED" with other text overlapping it and the wrong colors showing up? If not, then IE6 probably deserves a -1

This isn't of importance. 90% of pages are made for IE so it should mean that every other browser sux.
Its just the question do you follow the standard or don't. If you do and the web page is written for non-standard browsers its obvous that standard browser is going to mess that page up. _________________

The real question is "web compliancy" with what standard? The problem with "Standards" these days is that there are so many of them to choose from . Someone stating that the most popular browser is the least web compliant only shows that the makers of that browser do not agree with what the makers of the test consider to be the "Standard". |

IE7 got 12 on XP for me. Does that mean that the test failed? |

I was the original poster of this (bobbert yesserson), because I didn't feel like logging in, anyway, the numbers do matter for several reasons, just disregard IE forever....
Back in the day when teh internetz twaz young the scientists who created it needed a cleaner way to present information (as opposed to a page of just unformatted words) and to find stuff. they created HTML and everything else followed blah blah blah blah blah...
then just after that stuff was happening, the major companies who had control over the internet met (including Bill Gates and Steve Jobs) to standardize the internet, writing the code in stone.
everything was agreed on (including by microsoft) but because microsoft is evil they forced everyone to use their browers then gave them their own special code.
That's one of the many reasons why microsoft fails, and every kind of computer guy bashes IE... |
