yeah had a look.
my router gui does the same thing but the script would be quite functional. The code by oberon is a bit more elegant...
| Code: | #Persistent
Process, Priority, , L
SetTitleMatchMode, RegEx
Loop {
IfWinActive, i)sex|xxx|etc.
WinClose
Sleep, 500
} |
As with my blocker, you'd have to be careful what words you block |

if they are smart, they could type in bits and pieces of words and let google correct them. maybe its time to trust your kids and let them explore sexuality instead of censoring them |

Sure... I'll bet they would get a kick out of George Carlin (rip) and Carlos Mencia.
I personally feel that it would be better for the script to tell the parents if the kids have been typing naughty stuff and have the parents administer the proper action rather than having the script administer 'punishment' automatically. But that's just mho. _________________ My Home Thread

no internet content filters are perfect or bullet proof. type in pennis on google and yes google will correct it. try clicking on the links and other filters with come into effect.

I don't think shutting down is a very effective means for surrogate parenting.
If I were a kid it would make me angry if I lose some of my work due to a sudden shutdown.
How about locking down the computer instead for like 5 minutes? If he does it again then for 10 minutes, then 20 and so on.
Of course, the script should save its state, so that the kid cannot avoid punishment by rebooting the machine, since even then the computer would stay in a locked down state after a reboot for the rest of the punishment period |

Of course, the whole thing is pointless, because when the kid realizes there are forbidden words then he/she will get around it by substituting it with an other word. Like using muc instead of cum.
Children have their own language in these days to circumvent parents.
E.g. have you heard about POS? It's an abbreviation they use when chatting to warn the other party to avoid certain subjects when a parent comes into the room
POS = Parent over Shoulder |

why not

what work were you doing when you typed the word cum

or any other option deemed appropriate, including shutdown

you could do that. i wouldn't say you should do that.

A google image search for muc didn't disturb me too much. i might block goatse.cx however

fortunately there is urbandictionary.com so we can translate their secrets

I was wondering what POS meant. Wow, all these years later it still means the same thing. Cool. |

It's funny how some parents think they can stop their children accessing smut these days.
Even if your children are not savvy enough they surely have tech-savvy friends, they can go to forums, etc. where they can find countless ways to bypass any filter.
You should try talking to them instead. |

Thanks for the gratuitous advice, but I do talk to them. I tell them that when they or their tech savvy grade 3 friends can bypass my security measures, it is time for them to have unfettered internet access. They have more to worry about than a computer ignorant POS however. LOL. LMFAO. |

Heh, congrats on a very...eh, entertaining post.
btw, if you're not monitoring the clipboard, they could just copy/paste such things. Plus, there are many other (better) ways to block bad/inappropriate sites and such, rather than just blocking certain words.
I kinda agree with Guest ( xD like, which one, right?). I mean, I'd hate to lose data from a (seemingly random) forced shutdown.

| Red Hat Dude wrote: | | btw, if you're not monitoring the clipboard, they could just copy/paste such things. | What part of the 3 line script gave people the idea that it was designed to be impervious to a hack attack. If anyone's interested, maybe that's something we could work on. I'm growing weary of the censorship debate. |

Eh. I'm 15 and I use the internet for talking constantly, and I haven't even heard of "POS". Sometimes I think people exaggerate too much... ._.;; |

Well, I said it as politely as I could.
And yes, well let's see here...if I type the word ship and in error I hit a 't' instead of a 'p', then the computer shuts down. I have no idea why.
And since you don't want to hear anymore from me...goodbye. |
