no I mean to change the whole background to black, not just the area around the text.

how would that be done. If I change all the backgrounds to black, then only the background behind the text is black, the rest is still white. Or am I doing something wrong?

Go to http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/download.php
find: Style files

Vibrant Ink is a good template to begin with.

every text type has a forground and background.
don't just change the main background, you gotta go though EVERY option.

I just downloaded and installed the newest version (5.1.4) and switched my background color. Try this:

Settings -> Styler Configurator.

Make sure Global Styles and Global Override are selected and then set your background color.

Put a checkmark next to "Enable global background color".

Click "Save and Close".

my 2 cents:

try the 'Vibrant Ink' style as one poster suggested. Its nice on the eyes.

Download the file as directed, then open it for install instructions.

It's okay. A vim color theme would be better.

settings>style configurator> select theme

Once you open the configurator and the window pops up for it, you'll notice a drop down menu titled, "Select theme" at the top of the window. This was the easiest and quickest way for me to get a black background. I suggest you try, "Deep Black". Very Happy
