hey i need to delete a file with dos and dos will not read the C drive on my computer. The only way to delete it is to use dos. compicated situation. the C drive is on my second ide cable. Also norton Windoctor says that the drive's name has been changed to "C." it says it fixed it but it picks that up in the scan every time. I tried typing "C." in to dos and that does not work. I can only use Trillian, firefox, and IE. The file I need to delete is a database to zone alarm, and to unistall it, it asks for a password, also it asks for a password when you change any settings in zone alarm. you cannot delete the file manualy because it "is in use by another person or program". It does not let you use msconfig.exe to do a diagnosic startup. it asks for a password when you try to end the process. The password was changed by someone else and forggoten apparently. if you delete all the program files it replaces them. it says "access denied" if you try to delete the registy key. I'm thinking that it might work if i put my Hard drive in another computer and delete it that way, but only as a last resort. If anyone can tell me why dos does not work and mabee how to fix it, then they would be awesome to the max.

I once had a file I couldn't delte in Windows. The only way I could do it was this:

Start the Windows Task Manager

Start a command consol and move in the consol to the file, prepare to delte the file

Now kill all explorer processes in the Windows Task Manager (your desktop will disapear)

delte the file in the console

start a new task in the Windows Task Manager ("explorer"). This should bring back your desktop.

Good luck.

Try CopyLock. This has worked for me many times.
