|
|
Hello Group,
I just got out of a very deep 'insiders' conference at Microsoft. I have a friend who works there and was lucky to be invited, and participate in demos. I was shocked how good they were concerning MULTI-TOUCH! If you all know me on this group, I am working with kids and people who have disabilities, to make it easier for them to interface with computers. I have been gifted with the information, and hope to see what people can do with it. I have in my hands a wealth of mostly unreleased & brand spanking new information for Windows 7 MULTI-TOUCH API. It requires allot of COM experience I think, but should be a breeze if you know it.
If anyone in this group has downloaded Windows 7 (which is available free & legal from www.download.com as of this week), it has the new API for this. If you have any interest, I will be happy to share my information with this group.
Obviously, you'll need some kind of touch screen monitor or you will not be able to really test anything. Anyway, I didn't want to invest my time to re-create the schematics & information I have yet for this thread.
If any serious takers out there who want to see this, I will be happy. I want to contribute to trying to make some playtime COM objects for this new stuff.
FYI,
If anyone wants to pick up a touch screen to test this fun stuff, I have this info., with example code, pictures, etc.
-Programming for Multitouch (conceptual)
-Multitouch Gestures (reference)
-Multitouch Input (reference)
-Introduction to Windows Touch
-Developer Enhancements to Windows Touch and Tablet PC
-User Experience Guidelines for Touch
Just let me know! |

I had intended to build a Multi-Touch Table over the Holidays, but time got away from me.
Now, I have most of the parts, but not a second to spare (five kids keep me pretty busy).
Anyway, if/when this project comes to fruition, I'll post my results.
Any documentation you could provide would likely prove beneficial.
Thanks - _________________

Oh I hear ya boy! I will work on this soon, and post all the data to this thread. Check on it in the next couple of days. Best wishes, FireGirl.
If anyone else is interested, please post your reaction to this thread. It would be neat to get some posts going with sample Windows 7 functions, GUI models, and such. I will get this all moving soon.
BTW, windows 7 for testing this can be downloaded here:

It would be fascinating for people I think to see what is possible with it.

@FireGirl
I have been an ardent AHK user for quite some time. I don't have a programming background though I would love to learn.
I use a graphic tablet for my tablet functions on Vista and my only rant is the inability to assign my own functions to the press and hold gesture. The same could have been easily done using AHK in Win XP Tablet PC edition as the virtual right button click could be overridden by AHK and used as a hotkey (I had made a thread about it a few months back on AHK forums). I have tried this in Windows 7 too., and though there have been welcome improvements like the handwriting learning capability and multi-touch, the pen "flicks" are still the same and even a couple of years old freeware like strokeit can do so much more.
I have tried to overcome this flaw by attempting to learn the WinTab API but I am not as capable as you fellows.
Please try to communicate this to the development team if possible
btw, I tried to dl the API docs you have posted but somehow, uploading.com doesn't work for me. Can someone provide a mirror to mediafire. |

Thank you much for your note!
I do speak with internal developers at Microsoft every now and then. I am sort of on a board of directors of people who help support & develop systems for those who are disabled, (i.e. not able to use Computers as easily as you or I). So I try real hard to promote new ideas which can evolve into cool things.
Thanks so much. If you have trouble with that link, try again. It seems to be working, I don't know why you cannot get that file.
BTW, you will need a 'multi-touch' compatible touch screen display. This is special. You cannot use a normal touch display, such as those on a TABLET PC. Only a few computer monitors today really support the multi-point proximity detection needed to make this new technology to work. It is fun! I hope you get involved and make it work.
Best wishes -- FireGirl |

Hey FireGirl, any updates on this?
I am also going to build a multi touch surface in a couple of days. I am still unable to download from the uploading.com link that you posted. It always gives the slots filled error for my country. wud appreciate a mediafire link. |

I still haven't gotten around to building mine;
Even though it should only take about an hour, I just can't break away long enough to focus on it.
Take some pictures as you build yours and post here!
(I'll do the same if I ever get that far with the project) _________________

haha
Fir aeper? , ... what is on yoour mind,, boy? :/
That file certainly now is becoming old information, collected over 2 months ago (early January) in a in-house demo training class at Microsoft Corporation (to get a head start) ..., a coule weeks before MSDN had this information by looking at d ates. I would definitely verify this against the latest organized information out there (and of course, the latest version of Windows 7 (BTE, i understand the latest beta-build had some mior changes.... rbly unrelated tothis multi-touch.... can some1 confirm????), if you actually have the Hard-ware to test this). Some API calls may Never be published & remain un-published, ....so I would look at the whole b o d y of information I am giving and make your judgment. I think that is the right way to do this!!!
I took the link down, ut if anyone want s this information please send me a private message w/your emiail addy.. so sorry for the troubles downloading it being reported in this thread.dd
@Firaeper
Please remove profanity from your future posts... It is a violation of the standards for this forum, is unfriendly, & quite offensive 2 nt just me, but other Readersss!.... even if you login as a guest and hide like a ! If you have more data with Multi-touch, api-calls, code-samples & more thann specu lation, please post them here. Have a nice day.

This is the same TouchTable I had intended to build at the beginning of the year,
but more important projects moved to the forefront and I still haven't built one.
If you throw one together, let us know how it works out for ya. _________________
