I am (or was) the maintainer of the German AutoHotkey site. This held the German wiki, the German forum, and the German translation of the main site, among other things. Recently, I have been informed that my account on 1&1, which I obtained for an extremely low rate some years ago, has been locked. As I have more or less moved on from AutoHotkey (for now at least), and as I have no other use for the domain, I can't see myself paying to keep it running. I sincerely apologize to any users of this domain who lost work from the wiki or forum; rest assured I'm attempting to retrieve the data, at the very least. Hopefully someone else will be able to host it eventually, and I can then pass the data on to them, where it can be revived.
Once again, my apologies to any Germans who made use of the site while it was operational. I would've let you know sooner if I could've.
(It'd be great if someone could translate this into German and repost it.)

Ok, here is my rough 'translation' into German (I'm no native speaker):
Ich bin (oder war) der Verwalter vom deutschen AutoHotkey Forum. Dies beinhaltete die deutsche Wiki, das deutsche Forum, und die deutsche Übersetzung der Hauptseite, und noch anderes. Vor kurzem bin ich informiert worden das mein account bei 1&1, was ich einige Jahre her für einen extrem niedrigen Preis erworben hatte, geschlossen wurde. Weil ich mich mehr oder weniger von AutoHotkey 'verabschiedet' habe (erstmal), und weil ich keine ander Nutzung für das Domain habe, sehe ich mich nicht weiter bezahlen um es laufen zu lassen. Ich entschuldige mich bei den Benutzern dieses Domains die Arbeit im Wiki oder Forum verloren haben. Ich werde mindestens versuchen die Daten wiederherzustellen/zu bekommen. Hoffentlich kann jemand anders es irgendwann hosten, und ich kann dann die Daten denjenigen übertragen, damit es wiederhergestellt werden kann.
Nochmals, meine Entschuldigungen gehen an die Deutschen die die Seiten benutzt haben als es noch funktionierte. Ich hätte es euch früher wissen lassen, wenn ich es eher gewusst hätte.

jonny do you need any assistance to get the data from 1&1 (to would have lost the wiki would be a desaster, and a slap in the face of those who have spend time on it  )? AFAIK 1&1 isn't far away from my hometown. Give us a sign. Your German posse

Thank you very much, daonlyfreez, for the translation and the offer. I also just noticed the other thread, but it seems like everyone's moved to this one now anyway.
@BoBo and my... um... "posse" : I will attempt to retrieve it myself first. If I can't, though, I will gladly welcome some help. Take comfort in knowing that I'll do anything I can to retrieve your long hours of work. |

Ok, new information has been obtained via the ever-helpful 1and1 tech support team. Apparently the "free as in beer" nature of my account means that I can't exceed a certain bandwidth limit. Obviously, this limit was exceeded sometime in the operation of the wiki and the forum. With a normal account, the extra load would simply be billed to my credit card, but the special account I have (which I won in a giveaway a few years ago) simply gets locked down for a month. Thus, all we have to do is wait and it will be back up in a few weeks. However, at the moment, it is completely locked down, and retrieving the data is impossible.
The only way to prevent situations like this in the future (situations that are almost certain to arise again if I continue to host the German community) would be to upgrade my account to a normal one, the kind I would have to pay to maintain even if no bandwidth went over it. Now, I'm sure that there is enough enthusiasm behind this to receive adequate funding, and it's really pretty cheap anyway, but I'm still undecided on this matter.
Since daonlyfreez says he has webspace available, I'm wavering; if there were no alternative I would do my best to make it available to our German users. But the circumstances seem to leave the decision to me. I'm going to say nothing for certain at this point. Instead, I'll wait until the domain is unlocked again, and then I will announce whether I'll allow the wiki and forum to remain on my domain or not.
(I'd be grateful for another translation.)
@BoBo: I'm not sure, since I hadn't given it much thought up to this point. If I decide to continue hosting it, I'd look into it and first see if it's low enough to support on my own. I don't want to put pressure on anyone. If you want to know for certain, it might be possible to find on their site. |

thx 4 that fast response, and the effort you spent on that. Much appreciated  . It's great news not to have lost all that content. Yeeeeha.
IMHO, it makes sense to hand it over to daonlyfreez (regarding the webspace). I don't know if, beside the webspace itself, he's able (and willing!) to administer the phpBB software/board. Well, as a result we "bloody Germans" would have to care on our own . Maybe he can clearify that.
And - needless to say - boys&girls of all ages: "No sex before marriage" (this statement was friendly funded by the US-government) and of course "BackupBackupBackup"

Wenn es keine Alternative gäbe, würde ich alles versuchen, um es allen deutschen Usern zur Verfügung zu stellen. Aber die Umstände scheinen die Entscheidung mir zu überlassen. Bandwidth problem is somewhat my fault. I uploaded every single German message to the wiki. This at last was 100% successful so I don't need to do that again when the wiki comes back. My bot used 2 connections for every page, one for detecting if a page was occupied and another to set page contents. I'm sorry for what happened back there, but someone would have to do that anyways...
